What's new

Suggest my next DE!

I have yet to find a DE to replace my Gillette NEW, bar handle, short comb.

I have been using a R41 (2011) as of late, some blades make it too aggressive imo and I have gotten a little irritation/ingrowns with some combinations.

I have tried the 37C, sold it.

I tried several Merkurs, was not a big fan.

Most vintage Gillettes, but still waiting to get my hands on an open comb aristocrat.

I enjoyed the Schick Krona and refuse to sell that one.

I have been eye balling the others, Joris, Feather, Tradere....

Anyone care to chime in?

Any passarounds going on?

hmmm. given your obssession, a straight edge comes to mind. But it makes me think that your razor blade selection may need some review as well. What do you use as blades?

Have you tried any Single Edge or Injectors or do you want to stay with DE only?

I have sold a lot of SE razors I got in lots, never tried though, may be open to it.

Gillette 7 o clock blue

I have tried a bunch, these worked best for me.

But I venture off from time to time, especially since I am more experienced

I have somewhat back tracked on soaps and blades to see if experience had tainted the product.

So currently I am using Israel crystals which had good ratings and Mitchell's Wool Fat

Maybe I should just stick to what works but I love the variety

I say go for the Weber or Cobra Classic. There is a CC Tour that our very own Poonjaji is in charge of.

Looks like I need to do WTB soon, lol

I think straight razors have generally gave me the best shaves, but I like to change it ouy, especially when time is a factor.

Probably the best of my old Gillettes I'd recommend to your unique situation would be a SS Heavy red tip ++. It's a straight forward, no bs great shaver. Everyone should own one.

Not sure if you are referring to a different red tip but I enjoyed the red tip,

My NEW performed better for me though.

I just had a great shave:

NEW short comb on Muhle Grande handle, new combo for me, worked well!

Semogue SOC SE2012, second time using it, wonderful brush, can not wait to break it in

Mitchells Wool Fat, this soap gets a lot of bad feedback, but I enjoyed it very much tonight

Polsilver super iridium, wow! Loving this blade already, first time using it!

Followed by a wash with musgo pre shave round, splash of musgo a/s, and some pre de provence aftershave balm.

After trying a few types of razors, (stilll need to check out gillette tech style of razors, at least this was left on my primary wish list), I settled on Merkur Futur. The ability to adjust when changing to ATG is just awesome, and I find it more effective and less damaging then many other blades. The blade gap is the most important thing ever in my opinion. If you want the most efficient cut out there, get a razor with big gap, so that the skin rolls inside for a bit while passing(assuming excellent lubrication ofc), making it possible to cut really effective. YMMV ofc.

I love my Weber Wave, and my Weber Bulldog, but they might be too mild for you.

You've convinced me to keep an eye out for a NEW short comb.
Also, the SI's are fantastic! I haven't found a razor that doesn't like them!
My red tip has the double ++ sign that has been mentioned as being the most aggressive.

I have the R41 and Short Comb Version of BRW Bull Mastiff. The R41 has been too aggressive for me lately and the BWR I always have to use a Feather to get great results. I recently purchased a Fatip Grande (chrome) and I'm in love with it. It's right in the middle of the two as far as aggressiveness. I've had some of my best shaves (BBS without irritation) with it using Astra green blades. I haven't tried a Feather in it yet, but I don't feel the need to do so.

+1 on the Progress. If you like the Red Tip, try a 46-47 Aristocrat. Nicer looking, a bit heavier, and maybe a bit more aggressive. The EJ89 head is nice, and they have a lot of handle options.
