Success!

:thumbup1: I was able to complete my first full face shave with a straight this morning! It was only WTG, but I got the whole thing - gives me a real sense of accomplishment! I had three small nicks around the nose/upper lip, and all were small enough that my alum took care of it. I've been messing with straights for a while now and only on the weekends so I can really have the time to go slow. Up until now, I've only felt comfortable enough to tackle the cheek areas and would stop at the jaw line to finish up with a DE. Obviously, the upper lip is still a problem area, as is directly under the chin. Any tips from our more experienced straight shavers would be appreciated - thanks!

Congrats. It's a good feeling, isn't it?

Don't go too fast - there is no race to the finish line and if you go slowly, you will really enjoy the experience of learning as well as achieving the final goal. You say you had a few nicks - what kind of straight did you use? I didn't start getting nicks until I started pushing it on my lips and chin.

While you will get many suggestions - mine would be to do the wtg passes a few times and learn your beard and then do an xtg on your cheeks and build up until you are getting good shaves on the easy parts of your face. Then tackle the harder parts a little at a time.

I have a few different straights that are vintage, but I was using a Dovo Diamant 5/8" with black blade.
