Stubble for a slant

I've been using the 33c for a year now, and notice that it doesn't have quite the weight to it that I like. My beard is on the light/medium side I suppose - so I decided to order a Merkur slant.

My question is whether the slant will be a good shaver for me despite my less-than-barbed wire stubble? Many reviews, and the description of the razor talks about how it is perfect for thick beards. I guess if it proves too irritating/overkill I can just shave less frequently, but the razor has received such acclaimed reviews that I thought I should get it.

The Slant is a great razor for every kind of beard (and every wetshaver). It's just that it works better on heavy stubble than other razors, that's all.

I have a Merkur 37c and it's my daily shaver. Slant's are great razors just make sure you search the threads for blade alignment.

UPDATE:

So my first shave with this was less than optimal. I received those irritating tiny cuts on the chin and under it, but I hope that is just my technique and that I may eventually get better at using it.

Is there a possibility that ones skin is so sensitive that they will never be able to get a decent shave with a slant, despite the care and technique?

I am quite interested to acquire a slant to have in my arsenal, but I have a Merkur Futur, and if I want aggressive, I can dial it up on the adjsutable Futur.

It's just a razor, don't overthink things too much. Don't make any judgements until you've used it for at least a week, it'll take you that long to internalize the weight and handling differences.

I had a better shave this morning, no pressure, but I think I needed to work on my angle because it wasn't cutting everything. Most of my irritation came from the third pass.

I can easily say that no, this is not the case. I am cursed with both extremely sensitive skin and a freakishly tough & dense beard. Even with that deadly combination, I am able to get CCS shaves on my neck and DFS on my face.

As many here have already told, when shaving with a slant use zero pressure, take it slow, and use tame angles when starting a pass (restarting and being more aggressive if necessary). It takes a little bit more time to learn a slant, but while you are learning it, caution is the word.

It is well within your ability to get great shaves in fewer passes with a slant, just stick with it. Best of luck.
