Stropping slow, is this efficient?

Started with a poor mans, I had a hard time with it being 2" wide and me unable to hold it.

I could "strop" it with ease on my thigh, wearing jeans of course.

So I bought a paddle strop, black latigo on one side and english bridle on other.

In each pass, I am making it light pressure, trying to keep spine flat, but its slow...

are 20 passes slow as good as fast?

Going slow is the best thing for a beginner as it keeps you from cutting your strop and damaging your blade. Your speed will increase over time. I do 50 passes pre shave and 25 post shave.

I also jeans stropped..hung em over a chair..pulled em tight..stropped away..took em off of course!.. :biggrin1:
Did this for about 2 months til I found a great buy here on BST

Yes. Stropping isn't heating up the blade. It's removing debris that might have accumulated while honing and/or shaving.

In theory it seems it shouldn't matter, but I find a minimum speed is desireable to get a good edge. My minimum is a 1 second lap. Also 40 laps minimum too :).

Think about what stropping achieves. It basically polishes the edge before a shave.

So that woukd come down to distance.. Speed is irrelevant.

I think you would have to go REALLY fast to change the temperature significantly. Slow and steady wins the race until your form is down

better to strop slow and preserve a pristine leather....

than to go fast and cut something that will cost money to replace....

Cool! Ill check some more resources

Anyone suggest a particular video or tutorial?

I only know to keep spine flat and just weight of razor? That about right?
