Strong tobacco?

Any suggetsions, guys? I mean strong in terms of both flavour and nicotine. Or even just one of those, but I would think they aren't mutually exclusive. But if I had to choose, I'd say flavour is obviously more important. I know about Dunhill Nightcap (picking some up tonight if the shoppe has it). And I've read that Rattray's Hal O' The Wynd packs a punch. Anything else you guys can throw my way? Cheers, and have a great weekend!

SG XXX, Irish Flake, Five Bros, all pack a punch. I like the Peterson Irish Flake best.

What kind of flavor are you looking for? Ramback Gold (a balkan blend) reminds me of the taste of camels, except maybe a little cleaner tasting.

I should have elaborated. To honest, I'm not sure. What I am sure of is that aromatics do not have enough flavour for me, despite smelling heavenly in the tin and room. I tried Frog Morton and really liked it, so I guess I can at the very least tolerate Latakia and may well actually be a big fan of it, but I won't know for sure until I can explore more Latakia blends... but I think the Lat sits well with me. Also tried Solani Virgina Flake w/ Perique and wasn't wowed at first but it's growing on me, so same can be said of Perique as Latakia. I have tried Mr. B's/Brigham Virginia Flake and like it, so Virginias are fair game, as well. I'm a (hopefully soon to be ex-) cigarette smoker, so nicotine doesn't phase me and I already have a taste for "smokier" tobacco. I guess Balkans would be a good avenue to explore? I don't really understand what Balkan refers to, though. When you say Ramback reminds you of camels, do you mean the animal or cigarettes? Probably doesn't matter as I haven't smoked either.:biggrin1:

Haiku44, the snus came in a couple days ago. Big thanks! Been so busy I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. This weekend I'll jump into it and also get some stuff together to send your way.

Never tried a camel? Man, that was my day off cigarette. Pall Malls were for work days, and American Spirits Perique blend or Samsun RYO were for vacations.

Balkan blends have a high percentage of Oriental/turkish tobacco in them. Mixed with other stuff like virginias and/or burleys too.

I'm off to my smoke shoppe now and it looks like I'll be grabbing some Irish Flake along with the Nightcap (I believe I've seen both there). Unfortunately I couldn't make the trip to the Rama smoke shoppe today as I went to Toronto last night to watch The Jays get their butts kicked by the Angels. Baseball games aren't chump change these days, unfortunately. I'm convinced $11 beers are yet another sign of the impending apocalypse.... somehow I still managed to partake gleefully!

Tambolaka kicks dirt in the face of Irish Flake and those other "strong" tobaccos. Quite frankly it kicks dirt in my face as well, and then laughs.

My favorite stronger tobaccos are,
SG1782
G&H Dark Flake either variety
G&H dark birdseye
G&H bosun cut plug
C&D old Joe Krantz
C&D bow legged bear
Peterson's Irish flake
Less strong but great flavor and satisfying
S&G Navy Flake
G&H rum flake
Dunhill 965

I wrote a pretty scathing review of that abomination on tobaccoreviews many years ago.
Since it was a gift from my secret Santa, all I will say is that, "it is aging". If you want strong though, knock yourself out, literally.

No Nightcap to be had but I grabbed a tin of Irish Flake. One bowl so far in a corncob and I agree about its strength. It reminded me of what I think smoking five cigarettes at once would be like. It tasted exactly like a cigarette, so not inhaling it was pretty weird. It's not too strong for me but I'm not getting the interesting flavours I get from Frog Morton. So I guess I can refine my search to strong English/Latakia blends. But I'm certainly not going to write off Irish Flake so soon. Solani Viginia Flake w/ Perique is growing on me after three or four bowls and this may very well do the same. I picked up a Lorenzetti briar pipe the other day, so I need to give this Peterson a spin in that fine Italian smoker also, see if I experience the tobacco differently with briar. Thanks a bunch for all the suggestions so far.

I was just about to order this pipe from Boswell's today but someone snatched it up before me. I was gonna choose Northwoods as my free oz. of tobacco with the pipe. I've heard great things about it. Crap! Me and my chronic procrastinating! At $140 I don't know why I thought it would hang around for more than 24 hr.:cursing:

I will second one that others have mentioned: the Samuel Gawith - 1792 Kendall Flake will make your head spin if you don't have a good nicotine tolerance. The flavor is also good & strong.

Cornell & Diehl - Pirate Kake is a step down in nicotine content, but has the boldest Latakia flavor I have encountered as of yet. If you like the regular Frog Morton there's a good chance you'll like this one too.
