Strange thing while cleaning razor

I tried the baking soda-hot water technique several times. The parts of the head went alright. But the handle doesn't. It is silver colored to say so, but after a soaking, it became completely black. There is silver color beneath it, but I can't get it back. Someone a idea how to fix this?

That technique is for silver. Your razor is nickel or chrome plated. I'm not sure that technique works on nickel or chrome.

Lately, I've seen a lot of people using baking soda to clean aluminum and nickel plated razors. Baking soda can strip and ruin plating. It's not to be confused with the aluminum foil/baking soda method to clean silver plating. The handle looks kind of neat but I would use a light abrasive like a green Scotch pad found on some dishwasher sponges to remove the black.

If your razor is silver, did you remember to put a piece of aluminum foil in the water and baking soda? If not, do the hot water and soda bath again with the foil.

Yes, I wrapped the innerside of the cup fully with aluminium foil

@Krona, I will look up such a Scotch pad. And yes, at first I was: What....the...? Then, looks cool also...

This seems to be a British aluminum handled Tech from the 60s. It looks like an oxidated handle. It's cool looking, keep it as is.

If it's aluminum, I'd recommend using Cameo to clean it. I used Cameo on an aluminum handled travel tech and the results were great.

That happened to one of my Travel Techs, a good buffing with some Maas Metal polish bought back the shine, no need to sand it.

I would start with metal cleaner and work up to something abrasive. It's hard to go back once you add scratches.

MAAS, or any good aluminum polish (Mother's makes one for aluminum rims, and Semi-Chrome also comes to mind), should work to restore the shine to your handle.
