What's new

Starting a new job the 15th

I was let go in June of 09 and have been looking for a job in this difficult economy. The methods I found most effective looking for a position consisted of using contacts and job sites such as Monster, Hot Jobs and specific sites for my occupation.

I found a company on Monster that was looking for a representative and decided to not only E-Mail them my resume but hand deliver a resume to the HR department with a note attached. In the note I explained I saw the ad on Monster and wanted to personally deliver a copy of my resume. After a few days I was called and had a phone interview with HR.

I had a series of interviews that lasted 8 hours, followed by 2 on-line personality profiles. I was told in the interview that hand delivering my resume made a difference in how I was initially perceived. It showed I was willing to go that extra step in applying for the position.

For the interviews I dressed like the people I was interviewing with and took note of how they carried themselves. I only wear a watch and wedding band ,so that was not an issue. The president made a comment that I looked as if I worked there already as I dressed like them and didn't wear excessive jewelry especially a pinky ring. He must have had a bad experience with someone that wore more than one ring.

The time off allowed me to do several thing, but I will be glad to get back to work :001_smile
