Stahly Live Blade

A friend of mine was talking about picking one up a couple months ago, and said he saw one in a local antique shop. So I went out and snagged it the other night to give as a Christmas present.

I know I paid to much for it, but in all honesty this thing feels like a power tool in my hand. Hopefully I'll get it cleaned up and use it before I give it to him. Just thought I'd share.

I am completely unfamiliar with this razor. Is there a reason the handle is so thick? I would think that would make it very difficult to use.

Let us know what you think if you try it.

I really enjoy my Stahly, but sadly I don't use it very often because the mechanism on my razor only vibrates for ten or fifteen seconds before I have to rewind it.

I have one and have not shaved with it.

The safety bar appears quite unique. Aside from the coolness of a clockwork vibrating razor, and the spring loaded cap for shaking, I can't figure out the safety bars.

Are they supposed to roll? They look as though they might.

Mine are stuck, and it would be so cool if they are supposed to roll, I would work on freeing them up.

Since I can't tell for sure if they just look round and are solidly fitted on purpose, I haven't put much effort into getting them moving for fear of damaging it.

Picked one up cheap about a year ago.

Everything works just fine.

Surprisingly it is easy to hold and shave with.

I've gotten nice smooth (DFS with two passes) shaves with it.

I don't use it that often but it does have a cool factor.

When I use mine I'd swear that they were rolling, but closer inspection shows they do not roll, but they don't need to because they glide like they're rolling.
I find this head pretty mild, so it needs a sharp blade like a feather.

I really like the stahly head. I have one on one of Bobs custom handles and it is one of my favorite razors.

I had one which I sold. It was inconsistent from one side to the other. One side was way too aggressive (much more than a Futur on 3) I got sliced by it several times and thought it was a bad idea. The head looked OK, but there seemed to be a slight visible difference from one side to the other.

Anyone else tried fitting different heads to Stahly handles? I put a bakelite OC slant on it once and it was not a good shave at all, but that was the only head I had with a short enough screw.

Would be interested to hear about the results if anyone else has managed to fit another head on a Stahly.

I have the same thing just used the stahly head on the handle for the 3rd time today and got my 3rd irritation free BBS in a row which is a new record for me (normally get some mild irritation if i shave every day more then 2 days)

+1 ... the Stahly head is one of the unsung miracles of wet-shaving. Those little rocker arms seem to give the head a nice little "bounce" when I use it on my ccb BM handle. I'm sure it was even more pronounced when used on the original vibrating handle.

I'm not sure if Stahly patented the head design, but I'd love to see another manufacturer put out something similar in a modern razor. Even without the vibration, its a great piece of engineering.

I have one and use it occasionally-it gives great shaves-each wind lasts about one pass so it is convenient. I don't use it more often only for fear of it breaking. The mechanism was billed as sealed with lubricant-which are now at least 50 years old. Despite that it hums along without a problem. ThePower Fusion is not a new thing and the Stahly gives a superior shave!!
