I can tell you that you really don't want to unless there is no other option.
It will also depend on what year it is. Some have a screw and some have a crimped on ring.

Thanks - that was just what I needed. Thanks also to Cooncat Bob for the answer to my question in the suggested post - I'm going out to the shop to grind a tool.
