SR3824 - I just entered the major leagues

Just wanted to share. After almost 1 year of traditional wetshaving, I decided to step up to the big leagues, and order a premium brush.

I got a Saville Row 3824 from QED. Joel posted an excellent review which helped me make my decision. Wow. QED had some of the fastest shipping from any vendor too... amazing job.

I was using a pure badger brush from drugstore.com (Kingsley for men) which wasn't a bad brush at all, but this is just something totally different.

I've tried it with soaps (MWF & MB), and creams (RSC, KMF). Bowl lather, palm lather and face lather (my preference) and it's just amazing. Looking forward to many more major league shaves.

Congratulations! Many consider Charles' Saville Row line the best of the best. Enjoy. But I don't envy you, because now the trouble is really about to begin.

There's no such thing as buying one good brush and staying with it and only it. Once you've tasted the world of top brushes, you will accumulate -- in spurts, I have found -- enough to crowd out your wife's/SWMBO's makeup shelf. You'll end up with at least ten before the sheer insanity of what you're doing sets in ("I have a Commodore X3, the Duke 3 has the same size knot, and they're both in Best, but the Duke is slightly more packed and the handle shape is different..."). Then you end up buying the new one anyway. Oh, sure, you'll sell a few when the crowd starts elbowing brushes off the shelf every time you reach for one, but then a few weeks later, you'll read some thread mentioning some fantastic brush, and the next thing you know you're "Google shopping" the brush's name...

I have a 3824. Pound for pound, it is the best in class. Major backbone, soft as silk tips, holds more water than a camel's hump, and loads the hardest of soaps without much effort. It works smashingly well with creams too. Me and the Lathermeister named Charles' little 3118 "Il Bambino" or the baby. I think the 3824 should be called Il Supremo.

Regards, Todd

I started wetshaving with a 3824 and enjoyed many a great shave with it for months before branching out and away. I've had several SRs since and was zeroing in on the 3122, thinking the 3120 a tad too small and the 3824 a tad too big. This thread has got me reappraising the situation again.

lol! That's why I love my Semogues! The best badger brush I've had is Vulfix 2234. Ignorance is bliss.... I'm staying away from those $100+ brushes. Especially the Chubby..... wow!

Its just the difference in the handle but my 3124 silvertip is the best brush I own. Stay away from the Savile Row as it can only cause you much pain in you wallet. Of course, if you must have the best.......

My 3824 (which shares the shelf with a 3124 & 3126) just met Castle Forbes Lavender for the first time yesterday morning.
They were enjoying each other's company so much, thought I was going to have to leave the room. :001_tt1:

Congratulations, you have crossed over to the dark side of BAD, Savile Row is an excellent brand and the 3824 is an equally excellent brush.

I personally found the 3824 a little too large for me - this was the old version with the longer loft.

I've been through 3122 with longer loft, 3120 with shorter loft, and currently have a 3122 with shorter loft.

Just find the right handle and size for you. They are all amazing brushes. Really well made, perfectly shaped knots that don't shed a single hair, at least in my experience.

They are probably the best all rounder out there - not too stiff, nor too dense, not too floppy, great flow-through, very soft tips yet with decent backbone. Very comfortable on the face even after multiple passes. Great for soap and cream, face and bowl.

I have owned many a Rooney and Simpson and all have shed to some degree, or have had uneven knots (bad haircuts!). I really don't know how these get past QC...

You can spend a lot more money on a brush than a SR, but I don't think you'll get a better brush.

I'm interested in how the Best grade compares! Anyone?

John
