Spots after i have shaved

Hello.

I have problems with my shaving, i get a lot of spots after. This is how i do it:

1. Take a shower.
2. Massage up with gilette shaving gel.
3. Washing of my razor (Merkur 23C)
4. Starting the shave. Shaving from up to down. Not towards the hair, but following.
5. Cold water i my face for a minute.
6. Using some kind of after shave.

I post you some pictures of how i do look the day after shaving and the shaving gel, after shave and the blades that i'm using.

I'm seriously starting to quit my wet shaving and instead use my machine when i cut my hair, and keep my beard 2-3 mm instead of having a clean shave. My skin isn't irritated when i do that, but i love the feeling of being shaved, and i do look better, besides all the spots i'm getting. Please help me.

Well, a lot of people here don't have great things to say about Derby blades. Some people love them though. It could be that, but....

I think your problem is the gel. Canned shave gels do next to nothing to prep your whiskers/face for shaving.

Get a badger or boar brush and some decent shave soap, and I almost guarantee you'll stop having problems.

I agree with the post above. Get a good brush and soap or cream. Take your time. Read everything you can find about wetshaving. All this will help.

Hi,

I for one, am not fully understanding the post/question. You are saying spots. What does that mean? I can't tell from the photo. Do you mean missed spots...still have hair/nubs? Skin spots? Cuts or nics? Irritation? Pimples? Also if it's hair growth you mentioned "the day after" the shave. Well...that's a days worth of growth.

The other thing is the product and equipment. That gel isn't doing any good and the blade is also a possibility. Maybe you need something a bit sharper. But the first thing I would address, once again, is the gel. Get a good cream and not in a can. Then really get a good wet shave with brush and cream/soap. Good shave prep is a good idea also.

Also you only mention one pass with the grain. Maybe another pass or two would get all the hair. But once again...maybe you're not talking about spotty hair. If it is skin spots of some kind maybe it's just the cheap product you're using and some experimentation with better creams or soaps is in order. Maybe some better skin care after the shave too. Witch Hazel, milder aftershave...

Hi! With spots i mean like this: https://www.google.se/search?sugexp...source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=FGu8UdI2paXgBJ--gLAC which i get on my chin. More like some kind of pimples.

I do own a brush. So a good shaving creme with nice lather, some kind of oil to prepare and then end with a after shave. Hopefully that will solve my problems?

Do anyone know any good brands och specific products to start with? I rather buy inside the EU, preferably from UK. Any good sites to buy from?

I think i want to try:

* Shaving creme
* Pre-shaving oil?
* After shave (I get dry after shave if that makes some difference?)

What do u think of that?

You are on track. Consider holding back on the pre-shave oil at first. Add items as you see how you react. I would suggest an after shave such as D R Harris Pink or GFT Coral Skin Food as they are great on sensitive skin

Thank you, i will try them both. Any specific shaving creme you can recommend for sensitive skin?

My grand daughter has sensative skin and used to use shave gel on her legs. After buying her a brush and MB Almond, she is telling me how much better her legs feel after shaving.

It is hard to go wrong with MWF, Tabac, or Cella. Some people skin react to strong scent agents.

I would try a blade sampler pack, a different blade may help.

Some of the pictures on the google site you posted are the result of ingrown hairs. Your original picture didn't look so severe. I too am new to traditional shaving and have experimented with different soaps, blades and razors. As the experienced guys are telling you the soap prep you use makes a huge difference. Go to BedBath and Beyond and buy a $5 tube of C.O. Bigelow shave cream and use that in the meantime I'd go online and order one of the triple milled shave soaps. I bought DR Harris lavender. I found the soap to work better then the cream for me. I still get some razor burn and irritation and one of the more experienced posters suggested I use Neutragena post shave lotion after I shave. I took his advice and have seen much improvement. BTW C.O. Bigelow is made by Proraso a brand that seems to very popular with many experienced guys(I never actually bought proraso) so if they say it is the same as proraso I assume it is the good stuff.

Watch some you tube video's with Charles Roberts, he has some great techniques. I use some of his techniques, but much much slower then he does. He sells a hydrolast wet shaving skin prep and lather system. It is pretty expensive, around $80, I bought it but haven't really given it a fair evaluation yet. I am not convinced it is worth the price, but again I am a novice and may not have used the product correctly the one time I used it.

I'm quite a fan of Connaught Shaving - good selection at decent prices, and they do aftershave samples (no connection other than as a customer).

Also, I'd agree with those who suggest leaving off the pre-shave oil for now and starting minimally - one variable at a time, and all that.

AFAIK, Palmolive is widely available in the UK. +1 for cream and/or soap and NO preshave oil. Less messy, and in most cases unnecessary.

I've had similar issues and what seems to help is a less aggressive angle; I also have the least irritation with Feathers in a Tech with Tabac!

I agree that it is probably the gel
A good cream or soap is more important than the actual razor if you dont have that bit right the rest doesn't matter
