Space is still interesting

I'm not sure how many folk have been watching the International Space Station. For many months we in Canada have been watching our own Astronaut Chris Hadfield talk and tweet us. Here is his rendition of a classic song.

I liked it. The fact that he didn't try to go past his vocal range is the key to singing. Most people who do can sing ok with a bit of basic knowledge. Thanks for sharing this.

I like this guy a lot. The amount of reaching out to youths and the educational videos he's done is fantastic. For a while there, all things space seemed to be put on the back burners but Hadfield has brought back much interest again to the public. His tumblr feed is the best thing. The pictures he takes.. is just mind blowing.

He really did make people pay attention to astronauts didn't he?

I remember sitting in the library at school when I was...hmm....10 years old? and the Challenger exploded live on TV.
A horrible accident but I remember it clear as a bell.
After that, no one I knew paid any attention to NASA or space exporation much.
Space exploration for kids at that time was widely promoted. When the space shuttle lifted off, you watched it.

In recent years, it's just fallen to the wayside. I didn't even know anyone was still up there.
With this fellow I saw videos and articles all over the internet.

I wasnt born yet when Challenger happened. However it was a huge deal for us Floridians. I'm about an hour away from Space Coast so anytime there was a launch we would all go outside and see the shuttle. Or when there was a landing we all anticipated the sonic boom. It was relevant to us. Trips to Kennedy Space Center was frequent. It was like Disney World for some of us. But I do agree with you on how after Challenger, everyone turned away from NASA and other space programs. It especially declined after Columbia. I remember that one well.

i wonder if microgravity affects the vocal chords like it affect the rest of the body?

Apparently Chris Hadfield went to the same high school in Milton at the same time (Milton District/Disco/Dismal High School...go Mustangs). I say "apparently" since we never took the same classes. He obviously took math, science, calc...me, I was out in the school parking lot, smoking and listening to Jethro Tull and Genesis 8-tracks in Gooch Palser's Delta 88.
Take that, Mr. Guidance Counsellor!
