Softest synthetic around?

Hey there !

The title says it all.

My first brush has been a gift from my mother. I really like it, but I'd like to try something different.

Ideally I'd a very big one with very soft/supple hair. I don't really care about backbone since my brush has plenty of it.

Is mühle really the only contender in this field?

Thanks !

The Muhle Silvertip Fibre is a very soft brush and IMO the standard that all other synthetics are judged by right now. A very nice brush that you can't go wrong with.

Thank you guys for the replies,

@fatboy:

I guess that the silvertip fibres aren't the same as the black ones?

@American1911 :

Thanks I'll check this one out !

Muhle certainly has set a new standard.
Their silvertip fibers are pretty good indeed, actually the 23mm is one of my favorites.

The black fibre is a bit underrated.
It is less dense and softer - in fact it might be just right for you!

But, there is also the artificial badger of Omega, which I found to be a bit softer.
I also expect the Kent Infinity to be a bit softer, but that is just a guess.

You may want to read some of the word GDCarrington has done on the HIS brushes.
It seems that varying the loft height makes quite a difference for backbone.

I've used the Muhle Black Fibre, Silver-Tip Fibre and Omega 343178 Synthetic Brushes and enjoyed them all. They are all soft but the Omega was the softest by far followed by the Black Fibre & Silver-Tip, if you want to Split Fibres.

Muhle of course, although I prefer the Muhle knot in the EJ handle. IMO Muhle handles arent the most comfortable, and I have a Kosmo and a Classic.

+1

The Muhle Silvertip Fibre IMHO light years ahead of any synthetics brushes out there.

Recently sold my 21mm brushes and got the smaller 19mm which I used today.

I prefer small brushes for face-lathering.

Muhle has been THE Pioneer in the development of Synthetic Brushes, but I wouldn't discount or ignore the New "100% Artificial Bager" knots produced by Omega, if the loft of the 343178 was ~4-5mm shorter it would still be in my Den. The higher loft was my only reason for banishing it and the Muhle HJM Black Fibre Synthetics, My Muhle Silver-Tip was custom set to ~46mm (thanks deruitem) and is perfect for my taste in brush lofts for face lathers.

Right now you would be safer to stick with the Muhle STF V2 or wait and see what comes out of the new Kent Synthetic.
Some are beginning to be reviewed now and I should have one in a week or so.

i think my Frank Shaving synthetics are great, especially, for the price. i can get the knot customized which works better for me than the Muhles which find splay too much for me.

Thanks everyone for the replies !

I'm thinking about a kent infinity, since it's pretty cheap (16 euros shipped)...

Now I've noticed that Mühle doesn't the HJM black fiber in white anymore... at least it's not on their website.

Now the kent doesn't seem to be any bigger than my actual brush, so I'd like to buy something bigger as well. Probably another Mühle. Or maybe an HIS, btw do they have a website?

Keep this thread alive ! Thanks again !

Connaught has the HJM in White, I just picked up the New Fjord Blue Rytmo with Black Fibre and I'm impatiently waiting. http://connaughtshaving.com/mursba.html
