What's new

So, what do I get next?

Hi.

Got my start with the Merkur 180, followed by the Gillette Tech, Super Speed, and Slim. Then tried the New in open comb, the fatboy, and Shick Krona. Also into straights, but that is another matter. Best shaves from the New and fatboy/slim.

Looking for another DE. Like the open comb, and interested in something a bit more aggressive. Considering the Muhle R41 and/or Fatip open comb. Am I missing out when not looking for a Rotbart, a Rocket, or something more exotic? What have your experiences been with these? I have not yet ventured into SE territory--I am thinking that is next after one or two more DEs. :)

get a Red Tip or early Gold Plated Aristocrat Gillette.

Smooth and a little extra aggressive.

Then, look into Gillette razors from across the pond. Every British made model is more robustly built than its US counterpart.

Tried any slants yet? Or maybe a Gillette New Improved? Lots of possibilities left.

I just got my Fatip Piccolo in the mail yesterday. Phil over at BullGoose has them in stock for $32. Couldn't see myself paying $55+ for an R41 when I may not even like open combs (this is my first). I've read that Fatip razors are excellent but the finish can be spotty. Mine looks great. Breaking it in tomorrow morning.

I think an open comb Aristocrat from the 30's would be a great next step, based on what you have tried so far. A 2013 R41 would be great, a Joris or an iKon OC.

My entry into the DE shaving world was eerily similar to yours. I also started with a 180, then an R89, superspeed, Slim, Fatboy, Aristocrat and an Old Type OC. Now I have an Otto Roth on the way + a replated Old Type. I want to try the R41 also + the 30's OC Aristocrat. I want my next OC's and the Aristocrat to be British since I hear such good things about the quality and different shave qualities vs the same American models.

So many great razors to try. For me, I really think I am going to end up being an open comb guy. I still can't get a better shave than what I get from my 180 head on a Muhle handle. I think a more aggressive (but not too aggressive) OC head will end up being my perfect razor.

I got a Joris and its the one! The shave is fantastic and so is the finish. I got the horn handle and it looks and feels wonderful.
