What's new

Inadvertent Fatip February

So, I’ve been de shaving since 2006. I have many fancy razors. A week or so agao, i cut a zit in my mustache area with my rr cyber 2 medium. Then, i cut it again with my osprey the next day.

I figured i should take it easy.

I loaded a golden shave(Fatip) piccolo with a German wilkinson economie. (A blade I don’t use often, but know it’s gentle for me) I was sure it was a Gentile safety bar, but realized a day later i was using the golden shave open comb (which has noticeably wider teeth than the actual fatip.)

It shaved great. After three shaves, the blade was done, so i loaded a sputnik (another blade I don’t use regularly). It shaved great as well. Three more and it was done. Decided this should be a bladescapade.

This time, i loaded a russian nacet golden. Awesome shave.

So, tldr version, this fatip is shaving wonderfully, and I’m going to try a new blade every time it wears out. Might as well keep it up for February with the inadvertent alliteration.

Give your fatips another chance if they’re just sitting in your drawer. Don’t sleep on the gentile safety bar in case the normal open comb is too aggressive.

I’d agree that Fatips deserve more attention than they get. Very smooth and comfortable shaves, yet close also.

The only drawbacks are the slightly rough edges on the handle (at least on my example) and the need to align the blade occasionally.

I like this idea.

On the topic of Fatip, has anyone tried the Fatip Il Storto Gentile, closed comb slant razor? Wondering how it compares to a Gillette Tech, mild, or Gillette NEW, fairly aggressive. Any feedback would be helpful.

It's a fun journey we're all on trying different gear. But when we return to something we used to like, we can be pleasantly surprised. Congratulations on the pleasant surprise of discovering that your FaTip still delivers splendid shaves!

I have six of them, 2 are focs, which I don't get along with, but the original OC head I find to be awesome. I should note all of them are the v2 head, I have the v1 but don't use it often. In all of them the blade alignment is as it should be and found to accept almost every blade I put in them (I mean the shave it delivers), it just works. Even a derby blade delivers acceptable shave..

I reach for the FOCS every 4 or 5 days.
I go in blind and in a hurry, face and head.

Smooth and efficient. I really don’t know what all the fuss is about.
