What's new

So I was Thinking.

I've been on a razor kick this month. So far I have purchased a R41 2011, Merkur slant, 1966 Gillette Superspeed, and a 1962 Gillette Slim. The last two were tough to get in the type of condition I wanted them in which is new unused or near new condition. It got me thinking if I stocked up on some modern razors now and kept them safe and new for 40-50 years which razors would be the ones that everybody wants. I can think of a few but what do you guys think will be the razors that the future generation of DE shavers will get excited about? I think these two for sure:

1) Edwin Jagger DE89
2) Merkur HD

Weber DLC. Also razors by tradere, ikon and above the tie. I believe that ikon is about to release a stainless steel slant razor. That one would be a keeper...

I'd suspect the more rare and better built DE's. Not saying that these aren't good DE's but they're plated pot metal. For me, part of the appeal of vintage DE's in their build quality and that they will continue to work for ages to come.

So with that said which razors that are made today do you think will be popular 40-50 years from now? They will have to be mass produced as they will need to stand the test of time and the ones that are rare now will be even more so in the future and much harder to get. Some will be lost, some damaged, and some discarded but some will survive and the next generation will say "I want to use that razor because my Dad used one like it." The Gillette's, like the Fatboy and the Slim, are still very popular and they made a lot of them. Just purely speculating to see what others think and also to see if there are razors out there that I have not seen or heard about yet.
