Small town Antique store find, worth it?

I found a neat straight today in a small shop. It is faux ivory with no cracks but a little warping when viewed from closing side. The blade is shiny with light spotting here and there. It is etched in gold on blade front with Rapier Fencing which was in nice shape. No chips in edge to the naked eye. Can this be buffed out without hurting the gold etch? Staining wasn't too bad around lettering but a good cleanup would be good. I can get it for $25. Is it worth that, or maybe more?

You can't remove spots/rust from goldwash without sacrificing the gold. The etching should remain on the blade and if it's that important to you you could send it off to have the gold wash re-electroplated.
Honestly without seeing it, it's impossible to tell.
Try grabbing a quick picture of it with your phone or something and post it :)

Very hard to say without seeing at least a pic, but if the stains and spots aren't near the gold, you should be able to polish around it. I had a king cutter with a gold etch on the front and I was able to lightly hand polish the front with MAAS. The steel doesn't look perfect, but it cleaned up the front without taking the gold off.

Is there anything else written on it?

my general rule if I'm in the hunt (just me personal) out in "the wild"...if the razor looks decent and the scales look decent and there is no rust at the edge and the stamp is from US/england/france/spain/germany and it's 20 bucks or less and its 5/8 or bigger, I'll likely buy it. A lot depends on my mood at the time, but that's my rule of thumb. I'll go 25 if I like the shop and/or proprietor, because they can usually use the money more than me....think of it as an investment --> we gotta keep these places open so we can keep browsing them, you know? No sense in haggling over a couple bucks (25 vs. 20)...the people are likely your local neighbor when it comes down to it...or they are someone's neighbor, anyway.

The spotting likely isn't a major issue if the rest of the condition is how you describe. To be straightforward its difficult to say if its worth it without seeing it, as others have mentioned, but at $25 it doesn't sound like too big of a gamble. Any vintage blade is likely to be a good shaver
