Sloppy Boar

Is it just me? Am I doing something wrong? I face lather, sometimes with soap, sometimes with cream. When I use a badger, the lather builds on my face and in the brush. When I use a boar, the lather also runs down onto my hand and it drips here and there. Messy. Had this sloppiness with both of the boars I've tried.

Is this just in the nature of boar bristles, or is there a technique difference I need to learn?

I think the badgers hold more water than the boar will. Your lather sounds like there is too much water in it. I would try squeezing all the water out of the brush after you are done soaking it and then adding a few drops as you go.

I have actually found the opposite, but the idea is the same. Quality boars seem to hold a little more water in the bristles, especially deeper in the knot, which would be a possible explanation for the OP's issue. As he face lathers, the lather near the handle is thinning from water in the densest area of the knot and running down onto his hand. That's the best idea I've got, anyway.

Try using a drier brush than you would with a badger, either through a couple of stout flicks before beginning to lather, or not completely submersing the bristles during your pre-soak.
