Slim gold and bent

I just bought this off ebay for about £7. Now before you shout "Bargain"!! I'd like to draw your attention to the slightly bent razor bar. The seller pointed this out on his listing, but I thought it was worth a gamble, especially as it is (for me) a birth year razor. I haven't got round to deciding how to tackle a repair yet, probably a smallish vice might squeeze it back into shape. Just wondering if anyone from BB, has attempted to repair such a fault. Thanks in advance for any tips.

Hard to tell from the picture but it looks like you have yourself an Aristocrat. Someone else can verify for sure. I am not sure what that price converts to in US, but nice find.

It was me that sold it!

I hope you have more luck than me fixing it.

The only way as far as I could tell was to take it apart and stick the guard piece in a vice.

If you look through my posts, you#ll see someone posted a reply on how to dissemble a fatboy - I assume it's the same method.

Good luck

Can I have some feedback :)

That can be straightened one like that I would try using a wood board. I've had to lay one on one side of the bar and have someone hold it then take a block of wood to the other side tapping it with a hammer then I used the block to bend the rest in place by hand.

Good luck and post an after pic if you get it.

It absolutely does not need to be disassembled in order to straighten it out.

Gentle pressure, don't try to do it all at once.

The Aristocrat Adjustable is my favorite DE!! (Somehow, the gold makes it shave better than a Slim!!)

Oh well thanks for the speedy delivery. The razor arrived almost 24hrs after the auction was over. I'll post some pics if I get it sorted out. Was your camera damaged too? It looked a lot better in the flesh. :) I suppose if a bit of pressure bent it out of shape, then a little pressure can straighten it. A few strips of shammy leather to protect the gold then a few taps with a toffee hammer, might be my last resort if I can't get the right angles in a vice. Taking it apart will definitely be my ultra-last resort.

It was actually a lot of pressure, I believe it was crushed in a door or something similar as my luggage was pretty beaten up. (see link posted before).

I couldn't photograph the gold very well - how did you do it?

Just took it with a Lumix (panasonic) compact, with a bit of flash. They're quite cheap cameras but they use Leica lenses. I usually take my razor pics outdoors and use natural daylight, as flash can be a bit hit and miss, but this seemed to come out ok. Obviously if I was using pics to sell it I'd take loads, till I got the ones I wanted; which is so much easier than it used to be.
