Slim Adjustable Love

proxy.php

My last two shaves were with one of my Slim Adjustables (after tearing myself away from the Red Tips), and boy were they nice. I had really only tried the Slim once or twice, but I am beginning to see how playing with the settings pays off.

I did my first two passes (WTG and ATG) on 4 and did my final (XTG) on 6. A little cleanup on my neck and I am happy. A bit easier to get that BBS than the Red Tip and less irritation afterward.

The combination of that longer handle and heavy, low profile head are awesome. Plus, a great looking razor. What a shame that Gillette doesn't produce these works of engineering art anymore.

Oh, that isn't TOBS, its my VDH soap in a TOBS container. Love that stuff too.

I'm a fan, too. I have several in various grades. The Slim is a constant in my rotation. Only my Slanthammer gets more usage.

Some Slim eye-candy for you:

Just got my slim last week, and haven't touched my other razors since, other then to clean them and put them away. Not sure when the slim love will mellow out, or if it even will:blushing:

A genuine Gillette. Fully Adjustable. Effective. Readily Available. Modest cost.

What's not to love????????????:001_smile

(and a 60's CLASSIC to boot!:thumbup1:)

Seriously the Slim is fantastic! I really is the only razor you ever need. A while back there was a thread about which razor would you choose if you could only have one. I chose the Slim, as did many others. As fun as it is to have other razors in your rotation, the Mighty Slim simply cannot be beat.

I borrowed my brothers slim for a while and used it constantly while I had it. The slim felt solid and the head and handle are nicely proportioned and weighted.I called it the 'blade tamer'. I like Super sharp blades like feathers and 7 o'clock yellows with mild razors and the slim was a dream. First pass on 3 second pass on 5 a few touch up around my mouth and on my chin and DFS.

Send some hot water down the centre spindle from time to time to flush out all the build up.

And yes before you ask I had to get one of my own, I was lucky to find a NOS (I 3) in a giftbox.

I would definitely recommend everyone to have at least one adjustable in their collection and the slim is a great one. If it was good enough for Sean Connerys Jame Bond it's good enough for me.

If I were stranded on an island for weeks and weeks, while some would daydream of delicious cakes and frosty treats, my hours would be spent with a little, sparkly Slim dancing through my dreams.

THAT'S how much I love Slims.

My rotation is pretty much whittled down to three razors. The Slim and the Slant are #1 and #2 (it's the Slim by a hair; due to its versatility) and the Red Tip sits a step behind at #3 (although I still really like the Red Tip).

I have had mine for roughly just over 10 days now and I am getting the best shaves I have had yet. The ability to change the aggression between passes is like having 9 razors lined up by your sink each shave

The Slim is the only razor I use.

Interesting to see that some guys dial it UP for a second pass; I always do the opposite: start with an aggressive setting and then dial is DOWN for subsequent passes.

Just curious.....why would you start lower and dial it higher? What's the thought process behind that?

For me, dialing it up for the last pass gives more blade exposure to get those smaller, more stubborn whiskers that are left.

Gents, I love my Slim too but I have to ask something.

Is it the good time for going prices up for Slims? I saw many priced up Gillette models like Red Tip, Fat Boy, SS which are popular in B&B. Yes, there are not so many but IMHO "we" are the main factor of going prices up. Thank you.

What is the next? Black Super Adjustable or maybe Blue Tip:huh:

My first DE razor was a Parker 91R. It wound up having a defect. Before I sent it back to get a refund, it dawned on me that it would be nice to be able to adjust the aggressiveness so I bought an early 80s Gillette Super Adjustable. I love that razor. Other than wanting to try an open comb, I really don't need any other razors. The Super Adjustable does everything I need. I did get some Russian clones of the Gillette Adjustable I am trying and liking.

According to the homepage, there are 32,069 members on this board. I imagine that, yes, we do have quite an impact on the demand for these razors. And that is just this board.

I got my first DE for Christmas (Merkur HD) last year. When I started looking for vintage Gillettes I was getting lucky all over the place. I found multiple Red Tips, Fatboys, and Slims for next to nothing. Just in a short amount of time I notice that when I go into antique stores and ask after them I am often told that they have regulars who come in looking for them.

I still love finding them "in the wild" as posters here say.

It's all about reduction passes - on the first pass you only need to whack the hairs down a couple notches. Subsequent passes are the ones that need to be cut as close to the skin as possible.

Slims have been hot items on ebay recently. I just won a 1962 for $10. It should be here by the end of the week. I cant wait to add it to my rotation !!
