Slant razor?

slants are quite agressive. i love mine, ita a 39 c from merkur dubbed "the sledgehammer slant". theonly thing that will tackled the steal wool that is my neck beard.

i;ll let the others chime in, but its essentially doing a gillette slide for you every stroke.

bearbear has the rights of it

slants are more agressive, and twist the blade so that it slices, rather than pushes through hair. Try out out!

The Pros are already covered.

The only Con I can think of is you must respect the slant more than a regular DE. It is more aggressive and as such it can bite.

BTW, I love both of my slants!

It's not better or worse, it's just different.
I like the feel and the heft of it, pretty much the same as my regular HD. However, it cuts the hair differently and for me at least gives better results.

I love my Merkur slant. It usually gets through my tough beard on the first pass.

(I just caught my teenage daughter sneaking it away for her legs last night. I wonder how long that's been going on!)

Well, as much as I love the Slant (it's my everyday razor), there actually IS one thing I don't like about it: it is an ugly razor. If you compare it to an old Gillette, a Mühle or an HD, it looks terrible.
But the shave, the shave....!

I think the slant being an aggressive, ruthless razor is a myth. I am a slant shaver and I can say that most of the blades I use like th feather, the 7O'Clock Super platinum black, and the 7O'Clock green permasharp - considered to be extremely sharp blades are really tame in the slant and do a fantastic job of clearing that stubble.

I find the slant to be the go-to razor if I want the fastest "Quickie" shave as it is smooth and it truly enables the sharpness of the blade to scythe that stubble thus causing least resistance on the skin and therefore less irritation...

+1.

There are lots of posts on the slant, in fact, one of the most active threads on this forum is all about the slant.

It's one of my all time favourite razors.

My slant is more sensitive to a choice of blade than my other razor's. As an example my Gillette Knack is my travel razor. I travel with because it is very forgiving of the blades I have to purchase, while traveling. My slant on the other hand will put up with a Derby but likes a Feather best.

I think it's not only different, but it's better.

Pros: It is a very efficient razor. Call that efficacy aggressive if you want, but I think that scares some people off. I've gotten just as bad, or worse irratation with an HD than I have with the slant on an off day. With all these razors you just have to be sure of yourself while you're shaving.

Cons: I don't like the grip as much as my HD. The knurling (or whatever you call it) isn't quite as good, but this is very minor. Its never slipped out of my hand. The knurling on the HD just looks better.

I've found that Gillette Platinums, Astra Superior Platinums, and Iridium Supers work best for me, but I've gotten good shaves from Crystal, Derby, and Red Pack IP blades which aren't quite as sharp or smooth as the first three.

Prepare to lose blood if you use a Feather. No matter how careful I am I end up with blood somewhere every time I use one, not bad cuts mind you, but blood none the less. The resulting shave really isn't closer than what I can get with the first three blades I mentioned so I don't bother with them.

Buy a slant, try out all the blades and choose what works best for you.
