Slant-hammer

It arrived today. It's cage was fashioned from mere cardboard, but the beast slumbered within... it was true ... the 39C is alive!

6 months of 34HD shaving have softened me to the technique needed to shave comfortably it seems. I am in no pain, but can feel that I have had a blade on my face. The slant certainly seems to be more effective at 'weed whacking' than the HD.

My next purchase will be an open comb... the only dilemma is which one? a NEW or an old style? Any tips? the head will be mounted on a bullmastiff for extra viciousness

come on gents your opinions are greatly valued.

Congrats on the slant!

I was in the same boat as you actually, used my HD for ever a year and finally got an open comb and LOVE it.

I ended up going with an 11C and it's great, i recently got a NEW long comb but i'm still getting used to it (only shaved with it once), as of now i think i like my 11C better but its too early to tell.

Shameless bump for more opinions, thanks for yours Pilky :)

No problem, i almost forgot about the Muhle R41. Another great razor that gets alot of positive feedback.

When i was searching for my open comb the Muhle R41 and the Gillette NEW were recommended the most followed closely by the Old type.

Hope this helps.

I think the slant design does make it easier to reduce your beard. Can you get the same results with other razors? Absolutely, but based on my experience the slant does seem to reduce the amount of strokes required, modest as it may be.

Just had my first shave with a 37C this morning. I'd never used anything other than a flare tip SS, so I expected things to be a bit more intense than they really were. I got a fantastic, comfortable shave with the slant (with a Derby blade for now). No blade-buffing or anything like that required. Just three easy passes.

I'm pretty stunned actually. We'll see if any irritation turns up over the next few hours, but so far, so good!
