Skin Bracer Observations

Skin Bracer recently made its way into my rotation and I have noticed two things...

1. It seems to have more menthol and cools my face longer than Aqua Velva does.

2. Maybe I have an odd sense of smell but I swear I can detect a vanilla note in it. :001_huh:

Opinions?

No opinions.

I have a bottle of Skin Bracer that sits unused. I have never actually tried it. I have used boatloads of the Barbasol Brisk though, which is a Skin Bracer clone.

Perhaps I will take the Skin Bracer for a spin tomorrow. :thumbup1:

I'll agree with both points. I don't use it too much though because it really causes the oil glands on my face to go crazy. I like the scent and cooling, but have to pass on any day I'll be close to people, I don't want to blind them with the shine off my face:lol:

I did score some vintage Skin Bracer a while ago at a thrift shop near me. Glass bottle, a more mellow scent and cooling effect, but no excess oil. I do prefer the vintage, but don't use it much due to not knowing when, or if, I'll score some again:001_rolle

I think it has more menthol in it than AV. If not more, than definitely a longer lasting menthol kick.

I saw some old advertisements for Skin Bracer recently, and felt the urge to buy some. Classic stuff!

I think there could be some vanilla in it, it definitely has a sweet note to it.

Skin bracer is more my kind of scent than AV. I also smell the vanilla and like it a lot! It just works for me.

The menthol is awesome. Love it. If there's one criticism I have of Skin Bracer, it's that it has a bit of a plastic/one dimensional quality to it. I don't know how to describe it. It's a great scent, but compared to something like vintage Old Spice, it lacks a bit of complexity as it wears through the day.

Still, it's my current favorite drug store scent. If Old Spice hadn't changed their formula to the powdery shower product scent that it is now, I would be a big Old Spice user.

I pick up a hint of lime in it. The dry down feels powdery.
Very cooling. This is the best cheap classic aftershave going. Great stuff :thumbup1:

Straight from the bottle, B. Brisk smells a bit better. I'm going to have to use my Barbasol that has been sitting for a while. I think Brisk is a nice, warm winter scent.

I used to like Skin Bracer a lot, but that has waned over the years. I find it a lot more drying than AV. I don't think Skin Bracer has any moisturizers in it. I prefer Afta by Mennen more than Skin Bracer now. Go figure:blush:

Tried Skin Bracer today for the first time. Smells similar but not identical to Barbasol Brisk. The Barbasol smells a little sweeter to me.

The Barbasol also has a lot more menthol content.

The Skin Bracer's menthol kick lasts for about five minutes. The Barbasol closer to 10.

I don't pick up on the vanilla note, but the scent of Skin Bracer is pure awesomeness!!

Barbasol Brisk which is about the same thing. I would certainly buy Skin Bracer if I couldn't get Brisk. I agree the Brisk may be a bit stronger. It's a classic fragrance and I get compliments on it.

Skin Bracer's menthol is definitely more powerful and long-lasting than AV. I really like it a lot, but my girlfriend hates the smell. Needless to say, I don't use it as often as I'd like.

I bought some of this in a dollar store when I first started DE shaving and I hated it, felt like this :bayrum2:

Now that I have learned what I am doing and not irritating my face so much, it's not bad for under $2.

I think of all the "classic American" aftershaves, Skin Bracer is my favorite. I don't know what it is about that scent but I never get tired of it. And it hangs around for a long time, too.

Another SB fan here. If you ever get the chance to try SB Cooling Blue, don't hesitate. Very nice stuff.

At age 41 I guess I've been shaving now for the better part of 25 years and this year was the first time that I've tried SB. I freaking love it! It works great and smells fantastic and the scent really has staying power. Definitely
