is sinker cypress stable enough to use as scales without additional stabilization?

Cypress is so tolerant of water it will not matter.
They use it for piers all the time.

I am trying cypress (my wife said it is cypress) on a handle at this time. It could be a long time before I put it in service, we will see. I am making a fixed handle.

The wood is stringy. In my limited experience kind of hard to work with.

I don't think cypress is what you want for scales. Stabilized maybe. But better to just spring for some ebony or something. Of course you can always just try it and see.

I have seen cypress barns with no paint stand up to the elements for many decades. I may try cypress with no finish just to see. It could petrafy as the water is very hard here. Time will tell.
