Single XTG/ATG Pass Daily?

For those of us with average hair growth, instead of doing a 2-3 pass shave every 2-3 days, could you substitute with a daily single pass, but in an aggressive orientation like XTG or even ATG? Seems like it'd irritate the skin less, with just a single pass and 24 hours in between each one to heal. Also assuming average growth rates the hair after one day is likely the same length as a single pass over significant growth.

Thoughts?

Of course you can do whatever you think might be right for you. The only way to know is to give it a try. I see no reason why it wouldn't work, so go ahead. Post whether it works or not.

I've always shaved daily with 3 passes. There really should not be a need for a "healing" process. You might wish to avoid the ATG or try diagonal strokes, or combo XTG/ATG.

If you have light growth, i doubt you would need to shave ATG. You could easily do two passes each day with proper technique if you so wished. Give it a try and report back. Good luck.

I do two passes daily. first is WTG/XTG and the second is XTG/ATG, and those are dependent on where I"m shaving. I use straights, and can't maneuver ATG in some spots.

that works for me. you have to find what works for you. but the only rules that count are the ones you choose to live with.

2 pass & touch up daily for work is my BAU shave; even with a wiry, heavy beard. Both passes are WTG and touch up is buffing round the chin/mid-neck area. It ain't BBS by a long shot but my aim isn't a shave that I need to post about...do whatever works, don't sweat BBS and above all ENJOY YOUR SHAVES.

Certainly, do whatever works best for you.

Personally, I need three passes on my cheeks and four passes plus touch-up buffing on my neck with a DE razor. (I have a beard.) The only way I can get a decent shave with only one pass is to use a Fusion ProGlide (preferably the Power version--I have both) with a newish cartridge. Even then, I will do two passes.

I have a lighter beard growth and I shave daily with a 2 pass WTG XTG shave. If Im looking to get a little closer for the special occasions Ill throw in a diagonal pass.

I can get away with a one-pass XTG/ATG. My whiskers are coarse but I couldn't grow a real mountain man beard if I wanted to, so I guess I have less risk where it is thinner on the cheeks. Sometimes my skin needs a rest.

I have a medium/light beard and fairly sensitive skin. I normally do a 3 pass shave every other day. When I try that daily, it leaves my skin a little more raw than I would prefer. So now, when I shave daily, I just do a single ATG pass which works out perfectly. Those who have faster beard growth need to do a little more beard reduction so the single ATG pass might not work but YMMV. Doesn't hurt at all to give it a try.

Some days I want to shave the next day so I'll do a single WTG pass. It'll be a DFS minus if not a bonafide DFS because I taut my skin and use the R41.

I use WTG then ATG daily. With my regular growth and sensitive skin, that's all I need. I rarely do a 3-pass shave as it causes more irritation than BBS.

Yep, I do two passes with some occasional touch up 5-6 days per week. My beard is moderately heavy but the whiskers are on the finer side. I do have some sensitive areas on my neck that will let me know if I get careless. I usually do XTG/XTG-ish on my neck and two ATG passes everywhere else. If I keep my technique and pressure right, I'll have very good and enjoyable shaves everytime.

I just tried a single XTG/ATG pass out of curiosity. It was uncomfortable and totally ineffective. I'll stick with 2-3 passes.

three-tu-tu, three-tu-tu
I cannot get close to BBS with one pass. I do three every day with a fourth buffing my chin. I hope healing is a euphemism for rest. If I routinely needed healing I'd change something.

Having said that, if I shave later in the day and will get significantly less than 24 hours between shaves I will sometimes do a two pass shave - skipping the ATG. It's not BBS, but I can usually live with it without wounding my pride too much.

I personally would not try a really aggressive single pass to equal a nice, comfortable WTG, XTG - but that's me. Try anything once and stick with anything that makes you happy.

This.

If you're shaving daily there's no need to go against the grain.

BBS only lasts for a few hours at best anyway, so if you don't mind shaving frequently then there's no reason to aim for such a close shave, unless you particularly enjoy it.
