Single Edge

Hi,

I use a straight day to day but I'm going on holiday, camping mostly, for 3-4 weeks in July and I'm thinking it might be an idea to have a safety razor for a bit of convenience, I'll still more than likely take a straight I won't be too worried about damaging.

There's a Wilkinson single edge I've got my eye on, I want an SE and not a DE, so what are these like?

What's the wilkinson SE you are thinking about? Got a link?
Plenty of SE fans here, but mainly of the GEM/ever-ready 1912, Micromatic, G Bar, Feather weight owners, not so much of any other type of SE.

the only wilkinsons SE razor i know of takes wedge blades so that might not be a great idea, unless you get it sometime soon. the blades have most likely dulled and youll have to bring them back to be shave ready again. if you can do this by july youll be in good shape.

Wilkinsons show up with some regularity. I have several but they are not the easiest to sharpen, at least for me. Try for a 7-day set. A complete one will also come with a strop of the correct width. They are interesting razors, though. If you buy one, ask for good pictures of the blades, as some of them seem to rust easily.

Have you thought of a Rolls? Same idea but they are common on Ebay and a bit cheaper.

Ahh, a wedge blade is what you want.
Agree with above, thought about a rolls? It's a small set that self contained so easy to take on camping trips.
