What's new

Since the NHL locked out, I will spend this winter:

Cheering for the Lake Erie Monsters, because at least it is hockey.

Please, if your only input is "nobody cares, it is just hockey", consider it heard and contribute elsewhere.

sooooooooooooo bummed man... what am i going to do? is there a chance any type of season will be salvageable this year?

I guess there is always a chance, but it doesn't seem like either side wants to budge. If you are a Center Ice subscriber, cancel before it auto-renews. No point in paying owners that locked out the season.

as usual I will spend the winter cursing out The Commish. I reallllly dislike his management of the league.

Slugg from your avatar you are a browns fan...at least you have the Broewns!

That is true, and while I love my Brownies I will sorely miss watching hockey this year. I had planned a few trips to the Joe, might need to cancel those plans. I am shocked that this commish is on his second lockout, what a waste. Considering the HBO series was highly rated, the Winter Classic is a huge TV and sport event, and you have had Cup wins by Boston, Chicago, and LA recently, I have a tough time buying that the league is losing money, or that the owners are.

I did buy NHL 13 for the Xbox. It does have a new feature, its called Commissioner Mode. The way it works: You break the game disc into a bunch of pieces, then NOBODY gets to play :thumbdown

Let's Go Gophers! I'm a U of MN hockey season ticket holder. Every year I plan not to renew. I'm glad I have the tickets this year, though. Especially as it's the end of the WCHA as we know it--college hockey fans will know what I'm talking about.

i do like going to the winter invitational at the joe.

It would be really cool to be a college season ticket holder, none of the schools nearby have anything beyond club level that I know of. I am in talks with friends from work and my wife about splitting season tickets for the Lake Erie Monsters, we will see what the interest is.

And unfortunately, I realized this summer that CBC started broadcasting digital. I thought I might actually get to see a game or two featuring the Lions of the frozen pond (Leafs). Ah well...

I might be making a few trips to Rockford. The IceHogs will basically have the entire Blackhawks roster minus Toews, Kane, Sharp and Hossa (I exaggerate, but its close) playing, they are gonna be stacked!

And that is supposed to be a consolation?

Disclaimer- I am a lifelong Steelers fan, but Slug knows I want the Browns to be our main rival again. I LOATHE the Ravens

Well, here there's always Whinerines hockey, or better yet the Plymouth Whalers at about $10 a seat!

Dis-appointing to say the least. I grew up on the North Coast, with hockey played by the Cleveland Barons & on turnpike ponds. But, there's always a silver lining, eh? Don't have to listen to Don Cherry's blather, or Sid the Squid's either ..View attachment $Crosbycry.gif

I have often said that I thank providence that I am a Wings fan, it makes loving the Browns tolerable  But take solace, I loathe Baltimore as well.

My disclaimer, since I am often accused of front running (not that I much care): The two closest NHL teams growing up were the Wings and the Pens. Since I would rather not watch hockey then root for anything in Pittsburgh, I chose the Wings. This was back in the mid 80's, so I didn't get to discover good hockey for a while.

I am working on getting my elder daughter excited to go watch the Monsters. She is 5, so unless it involves princesses, she is tough to get interested in most things. I think that as long as I buy her a soda and a pretzel, she will at lease tolerate the game. Who knows, she might love it.......

So ... if the whole season is lost, do they just use last season's standings for the next draft? That'd be so cool, what with the Habs picking 3rd overall and all ...

Well, I'll probably just spend more time with the family, more time exercising, more time doing other stuff ... maybe take the wife to the symphony ... who knows, maybe even ...

... read a book!
