Simpson Polo 8-The perfect size

As I've ordered a few items recently (a variety of shaving requisite acquisition disorders of clinical strength), I've had the arrival of Shavemacs, Simpson and Kent brushes to compare. I recently took possession of a Simpson Polo 8, and by far this has to be the best balance--for me--of handle size, knot size and loft of any of my brushes.

The Simpson Chubby 1 has a very dense loft, firm and stiff, and its a pleasure to use, but the handle is on the small side for me. The handles of my other brushes just don't feel as perfect a fit as the Polo 8, and the loft of the Polo does very well with both soaps and creams.

I bought both from Clubman online owing to their excellent sale prices on Simpson brushes. When its 35% off, you have to jump on that!

Some comparison pix between the Simpson Chubby 1 and the Polo:

I think there are still Persian Jars and Emperors in stock, but the Chubby 1 and Polo are absentis.

Anybody know what the nominal measurements are for the Polo 8? There seems to be a pretty wide variance between the published specifications, Vintage blades has it Lofted at 56 mm in a 25 mm knot, with a 67 mm handle, topping out at 123 mm. Em's place shows a 50 mm loft (-6) knot dioameter of 23mm (-2), handle 65 (-2) , thus overall 115 mm tall.

I know the lofts will vary on a hand-made product, but seems more difference than average?

Not to derail the thread ..

Using calipers: loft 57mm, knot 22mm, handle 61mm, overall 112mm.

I know this is an old post, but I'm right now thinking of buying a Polo 8 so I thought I'd add this:

Thanks for making this effort solar but there seems to be something wrong with those numbers. From the pictures, I would think that the diff. between loft height and handle height would be more than 4mm. Is that correct? If the measurement of the total height is correct than it cant be 57+61≠112.

Sorry if I'm coming across as rude. That is not my intetion.

My Somerset PL8 has a handle of 67mm and a loft of 50mm, so a total height of 117mm.

The Vulfix brushes tend to have a higher loft. Most will likely be in the 55 range. The handle height should be more or less the same as the Somerset brushes, but of course the overall height will be greater due to the higher loft.

I agree that the PL8 is one of the great brushes. I liked mine so much, I ordered a PL10 too!
