Simpson Duke D2

danted

New dudes first post,
Does anybody use this brush and if so, do you love it? I would like one from Santa this year. Thanks danted:001_smile

I have a Duke 3 in best in the mail to me right now. I'll do a write up in a couple days and they should be very similar just slightly different sizes. If your going to be face lathering it should be an excellent choice.

I have a Duke 2 and its been my favorite brush since the day I received it. I haven't heard of too many people being dissapointed in it either.

I have a Duke 3 in Best and it's a great brush. It works well with soaps and creams, face lathering or bowl lathering. It's pretty densely packed, but not too much so. More of a fan shaped loft. Very well made. Great bang for the buck - I'm sure the D2 is just as nice.

I have a Duke 3 Best and it's my absolute favourite shaving brush!

I have a Duke 3 and previously owned a Duke 2. I found the Duke 2 a little small for my taste.

They are both outstanding brushes.

The Duke 3 is, without a doubt, my favorite brush.

favorite ???? with that stable I would think it would be hard to choose 1 favorite.

This one I do not own.. trying to show control :lol::lol:

The Duke 2 will be the subject of the next Brush Chronicles, starting in about a week and a half. That should give you a good idea about how it performs.

It is not an assessment that I make lightly. But as I continue to accumulate Simpson brushes (the Classic 2 is waiting for me when I return home from the Thanksgiving break) I keep asking myself:

"What if I had sell all my brushes, which one would I keep?"

And the answer, inevitably, is always...

The Duke 3.

Yeah, it's that good. :thumbup1:

This assessment is purely performance- based.

Of course, there are other considerations like the 90th Anniversary Astor being a limited edition or the sentimentality attached the custom eagle G3 because of the money raised for charity, but when stripped of all the extraneous considerations and I think solely about which brush has everything I want regarding density, loft, knot size, heft, aesthetics, ergonomic comfort and performs on soap (or cream) the way I expect a brush to perform, it is without question, The Duke 3.

And that's my final answer, Reeg.

How does the Duke 3 compare to a Chubby 1? The specs are pretty similar and even the knots look alike. I half-suspect it's the same knot in different handles.

Is there any chance one of you fortunate souls have both a Duke 2 and a Duke 3 in Best and could post side by side pics of the BLOOMED brushes?

I've read that the knot size on the 2 is about 21mm and the 3 is about 23mm. They are relatively short lofts, and I'm having a little difficulty imagining the difference.

I look forward to the "Brush Chronicles" edition highlighting the D2.:thumbup1:

Seems like that's the case. The D3 has a larger handle, but I don't think that it's necessarily more comfortable than the CH1. My D3 is in best and it seems more dense than my CH1 which is in two band. The D3 is also about $50 cheaper (for a bigger brush...?) Both are great but FWIW I prefer the CH1.

Depends where you shop I guess. T&H has them for the same price in best. In most places I look the Duke is $20-30 cheaper in best.
