Very lucky man. I think the CH2 in Super is the best brush in the world.

There is a big difference here.
The CH1 has a 23mm knot and weighs 56 grammes.
The CH2 has a 27mm knot and weighs 78 grammes.

Honestly, either will be fine choices. I have owned multiples of each Chubby 1's, 2's, and 3's and all were excellent. My only remaining Chubby is the 2. Choose a quality vendor and keep in mind that if you feel you've made an error in judgement, you can easily dispose your Chubby on the BST. As far as vendors, you have great choices but I'd personally utilize Phil at BullGoose.

Agree with Mike. If you don't end up liking it, it'll get snapped up quick on the B/S/T. The chubby 2 in super has a permanent spot in my rotation. The chubby 1 is too small for me and will be passed on soon. My chubby 1 is a 24mm knot and the chubby 2 is a 28mm knot, measured using a caliper. The chubbies have a cult following and I'm sure you'll be satisfied with any of the 3...I believe I have said it before but if I HAD to have just one brush...the CH2 is brush enough...

Mmm...
Can I just say 46 Berkeley?

The CH3 is the best chubby out there.
So why not go for the best alternative if the 3 is too big?

.

I like the chubby 1 because I am a face-latherer and find the knot much more manageable, and far from small. I also find my chubby 1, with bloom, while a formidable brush, doesn't require a metric ton of soap to "get going."

The Chubbies command a price premium, so for a smaller knot, there are other Simpsons that have the same size and density for less scratch. For example, the Duke 3 and the Commodore X3 both have knots almost identical to the CH1, and both are cheaper. On the other hand, there is nothing quite like the CH2; I believe in the Simpson line only the Polo 10 has a knot as thick as the Chubby 2, and its loft is higher.

In the grand scheme of things, it's rather disturbing that I know that...

Oh gee, I shouldn't say because I don't have one, but...

I'd go for the Chubby 1. The bigger brushes, to me, just waste a lot of lather and the whole process feels less controlled. Luxurious but sloppy. I use a "Duke 1" a lot and wouldn't want it any bigger. Sometimes I'm completely happy with my Wee Scot, and at home too, not just traveling!

The Berkeley seems very nice and I almost got that before I zoned in on the Duke.

You'll probably like whichever you get - lots of good buzz about the Chubbys.

Edit: Again, I don't have a Chubby but suspect Zumkopf is right - good bang for the buck with other Simpson brushes.

I think this pretty well nails it...the 3-band CH1 with the wider bloom would be the perfect knot size except for the smaller handle...the 2-band CH2 would bloom less but the handle is more comfortable...:tongue_sm

Depends on the hair choice

In Best, or 3-band Super - CH1
2-Band Super - CH2

Agree with Chris...my CH1 2-band got used a handful of times and since then has sat on my shelf watching the CH2 get all the love :)

Very lucky man. I think the CH2 in Super is the best brush in the world.

After using my CH2 in two-band for the first time, I have to agree. As soon as I felt it on my face I just thought "this is exactly the way I've always thought a brush should feel." I initially purchased the CH1 but returned it as the knot was too small. The CH2 is huge and feels incredible, but the size is still manageable.

When I had to make this decision, what swayed me were several experienced users describing the Chubby 2 as a lather hog. Plus I prefer a smaller brush and the Chubby 1 just looks proportional and feels right (my 2-band knot started off looking a little (just a little) asymmetrical and pointy but as it's bloomed a bit it looks balanced and for face lathering can't be beat.

Bigger is better, ask my bicepts... Chubby 2 (and let's face it gents, it's not about the "This one is the same except cheaper" it's about the full experience...)
