they would feel very different in the face.

both are probably more suited as soap/face lathering, with the Duke 3 being probably a better all around (cream/soap) brush.

I don't have either brush, but I do have several simpson brushes, one in 2-band, one in 3 band super, and two in best.

I've had several 2-band simpson brushes, but not the Chubby, and I own a Duke 3 in best.

They are noticeably different.

I think they would be noticeably different if one brush is two-band and the other is Best.

I have always thought that the Duke 3 Best and the Chubby 1 in Best were essentially the same brush with a different handle.

Very different!

The 2B Chubby-1 may be the definitive soap brush: wide knot, short loft, great backbone and soft tips. Mows through soap like it's breakfast.

In most ways, the Duke-3 best is just the opposite: wide knot, tall loft, modest backbone and very, very soft. It really is an all-around performer and I've been impressed at how it produces gobs of lather from either hard soaps or creams. I almost sold my Duke-3 after expecting a much stiffer brush but I've come to enjoy it very much.

The Chubby-1 is all business, the Duke-3 is luxury. I guess they do complement each other.

Yeah, they'd be very different. So if you owned both they would complement each other nicely, I think.

PS I much prefer the Duke 2 to the Duke 3, more comfortable handle and the shorter loft makes it a better performer IMHO

Interesting. I had a Duke 3 and and Chubby 1 Super at the same time - I sold both eventually, but my Duke 3 was nothing like yours described above. It had a short loft of 46mm, was almost Chubby dense, and had a bit of prickle. Pretty scrubby I would say. It was more similar to the Chubby than different.

Goes to show that there are still sample/batch variations.

John - What you describe is what I was hoping for and what others had generally described, thus my initial disappointment. Still, it's a nice brush. I also have a Somerset Duke 3 and it has slightly more backbone and is more prickly. Was yours a Somerset Duke 3?

Hi texbilly. If you sould choose between both, wat were your choice? In don't like to much backbone, the somerset is less soft and more dense than the other, isn't it?
