Silvertip brush for soaps?

Hi guys,

recently i have rediscovered soaps - namely arko, mitchells wool fat and the erasmic stick, and have also got a soap from queen charlotte on the way.

I have been using a standard badger brush with them and getting decent results.

I have also been thinking of treating myself to a silvertip badger brush, but am wondering if these work well with the soaps I have described or if silvertip is better suited to creams?

thanks in advance!

thanks guys, might treat myself to a silvertip as its my 40th birthday in December and I've just become a father for the first time.

1+++ for Silvertip. I have a number of Silvertips (15+), all makes, diameters, lofts, etc. I use soaps exclusively and use a scuttle everyday and have never had a problem. I've never tried boar, but love my badgers so much, I've just never seen a reason to switch. Since you're turning 40, and have just had your first child, I would seriously consider a customized/personlized ShaveMac or Rudy Vey custom (he can sometimes "personalize" a brush for you). It will last a lifetime with proper care and will something you child will always treasure. Just a thought

Technique is much more important than the tools which you use. With a little practice, you should be able to make good lather with any worthwhile brush.

My WD silvertip lathers up anything I throw at it, including MWF which is tricky for some. Only one I had issues with is Speick cream, and I think I may have just oversaturated it.

The grade that works best for me is finest because it is a little stiffer. But you can get good results with a silvertip if you really want to go that way.

Silvertips work great with soaps. As earlier stated, it might be a little easier to lather a stiffer brush, and the silvertip will take more loading and soap because of the dense knot, but boy it feels wonderfull on your face.

I only have one brush currently, a Rooney 3/1 and I use it on creams, soaps both soft and hard and it works like a charm.

Silvertips are great for soaps. I have NOT found one that did not work with a silvertip. However, for an absolutely incredible value, I would consider The Golden Nib, i.e., TGN 2-band Finest XH grade of badger hair in a handle of your choice. Run you about $60 and is as good as 90 % of what is out there for twice the price.

I've found that I get better results on my MWF with a pure badger brush. My silvertip is great though and it's probably a technique thing (as eluded to by other members). I also find I prefer the stiffer brush when working with more growth

Like everyone said, you want a stiffer brush, silver tip may be to soft. My go to brush for soaps is Simpsons Colonel.

Pretty much any brush can be used for either. I also use an M&F Blonde and a Rooney Super on hard soaps. Don't buy into the "badgers for creams/boars for soaps" meme.

I use my WD silvertip mostly on creams, but it will handle soaps just fine. I usually let some water sit on the soap a little longer than normal when using the silvertip.
