Should I Stop Using My D-3 Fatboy?

So I didn't realize that the D-3 Fatboy was pre-national release date code. And a bit harder to get a hold of so... Should I stop using it and switch to a later date code ( I own a few others)? What would you guys do? Its in pretty good shape. Or is it not all that rare?

I have a D-3 (a weekly shaver), and while mechanically excellent, most of the number paint is gone and there is an ever so slight degradation in a small spot on the handle. It's not collector grade by any means, but knowing where it lies in the adjustables chronology I get a "coolness factor" knowing that I'm shaving with a tool that was still in the test market stage--perfecting the process that would launch tens of thousands of Gillette adjustables on the world over the next two decades.

I may be in the minority, but I've always been of the opinion that if you have nice stuff, you should use it. I use my nice bone china every now and again, and I use the waterford crystal from time to time, and not for "special" occasions. That said, I do have a couple mint or near-mint examples of razors, and they don't get used. I have other more careworn examples to serve for the sake of utility.
Given what you say of its condition, I'd say put it to happy use.

The only reason I wouldn't use a razor would be if it was NOS or Mint in package. If it's been used at all you might as well get some enjoyment out of it as it's probably not as valuable. You definitely should take care of it, rinsing it and such but especially most of us with some type of rotation you aren't going to be using it enough to really make a big impact, these things were made for years of use, and hey you can always get it replated!

Use it.

I find it very hard to imagine that by using it as it was meant to be used you will in any way lessen it's life span. Unless you drop it on a hard floor, it's very hard to damage.

Just make sure you loosen the silo doors before adjusting the adjusting dial and that razor should be good for another 50 years of regular use.
