Should I get a "shorter" brush?

Hello all,

I've only been wet shaving to a few weeks. I bowl lather with an omega boar #49. It seems like a very tall brush... It splays out a lot and it seems like a lot of the lather works it's way up the brush instead of staying on the tip of the bristles. It also seems really flexible when I'm applying the lather and I'm wondering If I'd prefer something smaller/shorter? Any thoughts on the benefits of a shorter brush? Thanks!

try differrent ones, its all personal, but yes i think a shorter one will produce what your looking for , but bare in mind all brushes hold the lather inside near the knot , its forced in there by application, thats why rinsing is a critical part of brush longevity

I think 49 isn\'t too floppy. It works well and it shows from the fact that it\'s recommended a lot.

Send it to RudyVey, have him break the knot out and set it lower in a custom handle...that's what I did (though I don't have that brush anymore)

Lower knots often come with smaller handles. So if you bowl lather you could knock your fingers up on the side of your bowl.

Try applying later to your face using a back and forth motion (slap your face with the brush). You will find out how nice your Omega is using it in this manner.

If you have only been shaving for a few weeks I would think that you need more time with your brush before deciding if you are satisfied with it.

It takes me months to decide if I like a brush and I have been shaving 45 years.

Give it at least 2 more months with that brush alone, then decide.

Now this does not mean that you can't by other brushes. Get em by the gross if you want to, just put in more time with any of them before deciding if you like them or not.

AND....

Then just put the one away that you "think" you don't like. Chances are when you pull it back out in 6 months or so you will find out that you were VERY glad you did not get rid of it as it may turn out to be your favorite brush. Don't giggle, this has happened to me several times.

Thank you,Turtle. Someone finally understands. Closing in on my first gross and atblast someone tells me it's ok.
