Should I buy the big tin or a bunch of pouches?

I recently discovered I enjoy Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic. I decided I will probably order the 12oz tin from Cigars International. For giggles, I did the math to see how much I'd save... and it turns out one 12oz tin is the equivalent of 8 pouches. One pouch is $3.75 and the tin is $29.99 so it seems like a deal. I did the math though, and 8 pouches is $30... so I save a penny by getting the tin.

My question is, would I be better off just ordering 8 pouches then? I'd get the same bacci but working through the pouches may translate to fresher tobacco in the long run. I worry that I'll be half way through a tin and the tobacco gets dried out, where as the sealed pouches will stay fresher? Though I don't know how much of a problem this will be with a mass produced blend which tend to stay moist longer (I'm looking at you, Captain Black!). Then again, there is something awesome about getting a big ol' bucket o'bacci.

What do you guys think?

I think you need mason jars for your tobacco storing needs.

+1

Buy yourself some small mason jars. Split the 12oz can between four of them, and that way you are only ever taking tobacco from one jar at a time. It will all certainly stay fresh that way!!

+2 I started putting all my tobacco into mason jars for storage and for cellar aging. I actually think they will keep the tobacco fresh longer and better than the pouches, which may or may not have a really good airtight seal on them.

i think the 12 oz tin is more for people who would stick it in a mason jar and cellar it for aging or people who smoke more often. I mean if your going through a 12 ounce tin every couple of weeks then u can pick up a tin at a time. But if your worried about freshness and don't plan on cellaring any of it, I think picking up a pouch or 2 at a time might be the more convenient way to go.

They only problem I ever had with pouches is that there can be some inconsistencies pouch to pouch. Whenever I can I usually buy the big tub of Captain Black Royal and do the mason jars. Plus pouches dry out even when unopened.
