Sheaffer Pen For Men (PFM) A Few Questions Please

I got this pen in yesterday´s mail. It´s a PFM alright. I do believe it´s a #3.

The Pen For Men line was in production from 1959 up to 1968. Five standard models in the range was put out.

Question 1:
Did Shaeffer put out all five models at the same time (1959)? Is a way to narrow the date of production on my specific pen?

Question 2:
Is the pen picky when it comes to choice of inks?

Question 3:
It´s my first snorkel pen. Any other advice than just to flush out with water..?

Thanks all nice people!

Ps: Hey- the pen is a fantastic writer. The nib is ridiculously smooth. Ds

Beautiful pen! Congratulations on acquiring such a highly-desirable writing instrument.

From reviewing Richard Binder's reference page on the PFM, it appears that the five original models were released together in 1959, but by the end of 1963, only the model III & V were available. There were apparently a couple of Model VI versions manufactured, but no one seems to have existing copies.

Assuming the snorkel-filling mechanism is the same as the older Sheaffers, a thorough flushing should be all that's needed.

I don't have a PFM, but none of my several Sheaffers are particularly picky when it comes to inks. Any normal ink should work fine.

Thanks. Yes I have been eye balling Richard´s (great) site and a few others but like many times but when reading good and through information you always end up with questions:) As for inks- the short googling queries I have performed- none have suggested that the PFM (or all the other snorkels) are picky when it comes to ink. But I thought it would be nice to have it rubbed again I presume:huh:

Beautiful pen, one of many pens that I will one day have!

Tom

Thanks- me myself normally thinks that gold/black is somewhat boring- but in this case I thought differently. A very classy and good writer (yet to early to write a review though). In meetings at work I like to keep to my two criterias- a "quiet pen" (not a visual booster) and the pen should be reliable. This pen fits just perfectly. I am very pleased.

My Sheaffer snorkels play fine with many inks. However, I would limit myself to inks that do not clog easily, because of the snorkel tube. The PFM is a very nice pen indeed!
