Shaving without a mirror

My bathroom is in the process of being remodeled, at the present time I have only a shower and toilet. Rather than take my shaving gear to the kitchen sink, and try and shave in my reflection on the toaster, I just took my stuff to the shower and shaved there. Back in the dark ages of a cartrage razor this was never much of a problem. I had not realized how much I depend on the mirror, for things like angle of the head to my face, razor angle etc. It was almost a zen like experience shaving only by feel, sound and touch. I did manage to get BBS on my face and chin with no blood, my neck is passable but not the greatest.

Anybody else try shaving mirrorless?

Some time back my wife said something about how long it took for me to shave with a straight razor. I wasn't trying to hurry, and even the opposite. But, it stung my pride. So, I shaved in the shower in 20 minutes. Once every several months I head for the shower with my straight.

Shaving without a mirror is an entirely different, more tactile experience. I believe it improves my skill when I go back to mirror shaving.

aTeace, your understatement actually made me think about my response above. And, yes, I take a shower more than "once every several months." :)

Tried it once when rushing in the morning, ended up being really bad. I now give myself enough time to shave, unrushed.

Dropping the straight razor in the shower... Never thought of the possible ramifications beyond blade damage.

This lack of foresight is not something I am especially proud of, by the way.

Talking about -1'ing in the shower... I am beginning to wish I had -1'd my initial response above. You guys are a tough locker room crowd! :biggrin1:

I often shave in the shower, and I have a full beard, so it can be a challenge at times to stop cutting before I hit the edge of the beard! I find it easiest using my Super Speed Red Tip, along with Shark blades.

Yes, I shave mirro-rless quite a bit. Those on here that know me know that I am visually impaired. I can use a mirror but it is more for reference in seeing that the lather has been removed thus I know I have already shaved that part of my face. I use feel and sound the most when I shave. I prefer a shave stick and face lathering over other methods as well. I hope this helps.

I have a big mirror in my shower at home but when I am on the road, I have no problems shaving in a mirrorless hotel shower. It's not that hard and I can do just as much damage to my face with a mirror as I can without one.
