Shaving under the nose with a GEM trick

I'm sure many people know this already, but for those who don't, I have found that for me shaving under my nose with a GEM is significantly easier with the "pull your nose sideways with your off hand and then shave north-to-south with the blade initially perpendicular to your skin right under the nostril and then roll the edge down lightly until you are back at the usual angle" trick. I find that I get much better results with no nicks/much less irritation compared to other techniques I have tried.

I personally find that shaving sideways under my nose rarely gives me really good results, and south-to-north tugs a lot and leads to nicks. I do hope to master shaving sideways under my nose someday.

That trick's name is waaay to long..... how about we shorten it to the "P Y N S W Y O H A T S N-t-S W T B I P T Y S R U T N A T R T E D L U Y A B A T U A" trick?? lol

I pull my nose straight up. Works better for me than sideways.

I do one North-South, one sideways (from center outwards on both sides), and one South-North on my usual 3 passes. I'm not altogether sure how effective the sideways pass is, but it has become part of my upper-lip ritual. :001_tongu

I posted something similar to this once in response to a member who had difficulty shaving under his nose. he responded that he thought pushing his nose was too much messing around and asked if other members had any better ideas for a smooth top lip.

I bet his upper lip still isn't smooth.

Thanks for the tips OP and responses, I've had a miniature Charlie Chaplin 'tasche right under my nose for my last 2 SE shaves!

It should be noted that the written instructions that come with the Gem Micromatic SE razor recommend shaving sideways under the nose, from the right and from the left.

It works for me, though sometimes I shave on a slight diagonal.
