Shaving Razor Help :( !!!

Hi Everyone I am relatively new to DE shaving. I am 26 yrs old. I Started about 4 months ago!! I enjoy shaving now and have gotten less ingrown hairs!! I have a few razors chinese made copy of Gillette super speed, Bigroc, Lord L6 and Concord DE. I don't like going against the grain because it really irritates my skin.

I been using Dorco ST 301 blades give me quite a good shave and they are cheap. I can't seems to get a closer shave with any of the razors. Do you think I need to invest in Merkur HD or Edwin Jagger DE89.
Lord L6 is really nice razor and lot of people say the head is similar to Merkur. I have a fast beard growth.

Also I shaved with Gillette Sensor 3 disposable and for somereason gave me a closer shave than any of them, although I didn't like holding it in my hand, felt cheap.

Any advise will be appreciated.

If your Lord razor suits you then get a blade sampler pack from any of the vendors on B&B, and find the best blade for it. However you can pick up a nice Merkur DE razor for not a whole lot of money, like the HD or the 1904.

My first DE was a LORD L6 and first blades were LORD SS. Nice starter set ...

Try some ASTRA SP in a sampler pack with some other brands.

A more aggressive razor will probably give you a closer shave ... but if ATG gives you irritation, don't go too aggressive!

I'll leave suggestions on razors to the more knowledgeable ... I'm all into SE razors now - maybe get a GEM Pushbutton?

+1 - I started with the Lord L6. I didn't really need to get another razor or 12, but I like TTO razors.

I don't have a lot of money, I love shaving with DE razors, but I have bought quite a few cheap ones and adding up all of them I could have just gotten a nice Merkur/ EJ,
Do you guys think that Lord L 6 and Merkur give similar shaves?

Get yourself a vintage Gillette. Techs and Superspeeds are still available in the wild or on the BST. Superb quality for just a bit more than a Lord.

If you can find a Gillette Long Comb NEW, it shouldn't run over $10-$15. It is one of the best shaves you can get, period. I've got a Weber, an R41, multiple other vintage razors, but the NEW shaves as good as any. I've never tried a Lord, so I can't really compare it, but the general consensus is it's close to the pinacle of shaving equipment.

What Johnie said^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I have a Merkur razor and Dorco blades. The combo seems to suit me well. I've been wet shaving with my safety razor for about 3 months now. I do a single WTG, and two opposing XTG passes, using short strokes, and have really good success. When I make long strokes or apply pressure, I pay for it with irritation. Check your technique and try some different blades. I also found if I didn't get good enough lather built up on my face I would irritate myself more that way.

Buying a more solid razor and trying some other blade choices can only help. You may be getting a closer shave from the cart for the moment because it takes a while to learn how to get closer with the DE. It is tough to explain, but the shaves just slowly start getting closer and closer over time. It may be nice to keep the Sensor around for a while, but odds are that you will eventually stop using it altogether.

Good luck with the new options.

Or you could do like the rest of us and try about 15 new razors out!!!!
That numbers probably a liitle low
