Shaving everday or every couple of days?

Getting right to the point. What I have noticed from all the tests of different preshave routines/lathering/blades/razors/technique/postshave routines is that the most crucial factor is if I shave once every 24 hours or once every 2 or 3 days.
I had noticed the same thing when I was still using multiblades, but for a DE razor the performance results have a much higher fluctuation. For example a razor blade which gives me a couple of nicks and medium irritation if I shave daily, will cause no nicks and considerably less irritation if I use it every two days.
Bad thing is nowadays I have to shave everyday so the obvious solution of shaving every 2 days to get perfect irritation free shaves is out of the question.
I am not really sure if this is the result of longer whiskers or of the better healing of skin irritation since it has double the time.

Anyone else feels like this?

While it may be my workplace, I find that 3-4 passes (2 wtg, 1 xtg, maybe - probably only around the chin - 1 atg) I am definately SAS the following day.

If you drop from BBS to SAS, chances are this will mean you are able to drop 1-2 passes. Save the BBS for the days you really need BBS. The rest of the time, SAS means what it says: Socially Acceptable.

If I have to shave on consecutive days, I turn to my Tech if on the previous day I got irritation (and this tends to happen). I like using Feathers but a Feather everyday in a more aggresive razor than a Tech can be a problem. I guess using a less sharp blade could also be an option but I really haven't found a good enough alternative to the Feathers yet.

I'm a part time at-home-dad and part time student at the moment, so shaving every day is really not that compulsory for me.

Yeah, I am the same way.

Shaving every other day is definitely smoother/easier and I don't know why.

I wonder what it would be like if I shaved every 3rd day.

That means my software would last well into 2020.

no **** but i have definately noticed a difference in the quality of shave of a DE vrs a ****ty plastic fantastic.I take much more "me" time with my merkur 38c than i would with a shick and have found that getting a better shave even with nicks and weepers my skin is softer and will get 2 days between shaves (darn it) . I had a good bash this afternoon with a dorco 301 for the first time and i really went to town , got a weeper around the chin which i know wont want a go tomorrow but nor does it need it.The following day i will give it an easy go on that area and balm up so that i will soon have the wife wanting to "test it out" heheh

It's healing time for your skin. I shave everyday...I enjoy it and besides beard grows and needs whacking by next day...can't do every 2 days. Sometimes on weekends, I do take a break.

For me, I don't find that waiting an extra day improves my shave at all. I'm not sure if this is result of years of shaving or my skin is different but waiting a day not a requirement for me nor does it make a difference. However, if you are prone to irritation or you find that an extra day helps, by all means wait it out.

Every other day or every 1.5 days. I'd shave Monday morning then Tuesday evening is what works best for me.

+1

I shave SAS everyday irritation free. If I went for BBS daily, my face would be extremely tender.

I get better shaves when I skip a day, but finally in my life I've started to enjoy shaving so I find it difficult to avoid :blushing:

I get 2 days from either a straight or a DE shave. But I'm retired so sometimes I'll go a 3rd or even a 4th day unless there's some sort of function I have to be there for. Then I'll shave, but its really nice having a shave last for at least 2 days. :thumbup1:

Since I am on active duty and deployed to Iraq, I shave everyday irratation or not. I been a "traditional," wet shaver since the end of June. Paraso(sensitive) and Astra blades has been my go to combination. :thumbup1: I would have to say the biggest key has been taking my time.

Thank you so very much for your service- It is very much appreciated !!

exactly how I am...

I look forward to shaves now, and want to do it everyday. But, sometimes, after a particularly good BBS, I have to wait it out.

seem to get a better shave if every other - that's why I think the Indian feela straigting that guy with the long beard in the video had an easier time - my theory is that whiskers are like a tree - thicker at the bottom - and the trunk is a little thicker after 2 days than after 1 - I have a better chance of BBS after 2 days.

Shaving every day means putting in the effort required to find a razor/blade combo that can give you the shave you want, without discomfort or irritation - on a daily basis.

Every day
I have no irritation or facial scrapes when I shave .

I use Euracin Body Oil Wash on my face, work it in - leave it on and then use foam and have had no problems ,

Still fairly new at str8 shaving, so I give my face a break and shave every other day. Once I get accustomed to everything I'll shave every day. I look forward to the regimen and this coming from someone who hated to shave. Over the years I went from double edge to the tracs to electric and now str8.
Maybe I enjoy it now, because I have the time to invest in the morning ritual.
