I like gillette shaving cream cream. my silvertip badger brush is way better than my boar brush. I guess it is one of the reasons why they are at least 5x more expensive. I never tried shaving soaps. what do you think? are they better than creams? and thank you

I like to face lather with soaps and bowl lather with creams. No reason, I just do.....

Try a shave stick if you have not tried soaps. A stick of Arko is around $2, Palmolive around $5, Tabac, around $9

Shave sticks are an inexpensive way to see what soaps are all about

I feel both have good properties and similar results can be had by both. If you're going to try a soap just go ahead and try either Mike's Natural Soaps or Mystic Waters. Both are top notch.

Definitely prefer cream, but my only experience with soap was Col Conk Lime. Maybe not the best choice, but I will revisit it, when I am comfortable with my technique.

Creams are definitely easier for a beginner, I think.

I mainly use soaps but lately I've been adding a little Proraso blue to the bowl for a super lather (I think that is what people call it).

wow arko is very cheap. the gillette cream is good for me. and face lathering looks interesting. I want to try it out.

are arko saops good for sensitive skin?

Needs milk and a bidet!
I used to say that cremes are easier to lather and because of that beginners should try them out.

I've been using soaps exclusively for a few months now and they are just as easy. Only difference is loading the brush.

and add a shave stick in the mix and it gets easier. I reach for the Palmolive quite often now. My poor Cella!!

using nothing but AOS creams and Hirsh creams but I am eyeballing the soaps. Any recommendations for sensitive skin would interest me greatly

For sensitive skin, I'd have to go with Muhle Sea Buckthorn. Muhle gets a lot of recognition for their excellent razors and brushes (most specifically the R41 and Synthetic fiber products) but their soaps, which are outstanding, get little love here. Can't say why. Definitely worth looking into though.....

I actually started with cheap soaps for 3-4 month, VHT & Williams. Then I discovered Proraso and have been using cremes ever since. I use the Proroso Red only, the green irritates me. I have just recently acquired a tub of TOBS Coconut and have only used it twice, so it's too early to tell whether I like it or not.

I didn't have any problem lathering the soaps I bought, so perhaps I should try a triple milled shave soap or one of the natural soaps as mentioned above. I really wouldn't know where to start with soaps, although tallow interests me for some reason.
