Shaving cream Tubes or Tub?

Just a generic question. When ordering your creams online or else where, which do you get and why. Tubes or Tub????

I use Tubs at home, but I have a tube of TOBS Avocado that I use for traveling.

When I used shaving cream, this was my way of doing things as well. Tubs offer greater value, but if you unsure about a cream a tube is a better idea....

I prefer tubes because in general they have less product, that way i can go through them faster and try new products without a guilty conscience.

Reason i ask is mainly for upgrading my shave den. Im looking at getting different creams from harris, T&H, trumers and thought that if i got the tub it might be too much to go through them all as suppose to a tube it might be used more. just thought in my head i guess.

Tubs. You can't just open a tube and take a big hit of the scent. You actually have to squeeze it out and use it to smell it.

I got better acquainted with creams in tubes back in the 1960s. I'd seen jars of some shave creams in the 1950s, but between canned foams and electric razors, those were just not selling well any more. I was on planes going somewhere every couple of weeks, and wasn't really gone long, or terribly far, tubes of several brushless varieties worked their way into my routines.

At home, I started using lathering creams, in tubes (1960s-1970s). It's what I am comfortable with, and having come full circle, those will get my initial interest.

To the OP, having read these replies, aren't you so glad you received a clear, concise reason to choose one over the other?

Tubs look better - but if you're a collector, and I have a feeling you will be at some point, it's wiser to start out buying tubes, because they tend to have a longer shelf life than tub creams.
Shelf life on creams officially is 12-24 months depending on the cream and if it has parabens in it - but most will last you for 2-3-4 years and still be good.

But tubs just look better and you get more cream for your dollars - except the TF&H tubes - they IMHO look better than the black tubs

Tubs are a better value. However my Current favorite shave cream is Nuka Shave cream is in a tube only. I have both variations and they look like this.(thats what the tubes look like on the front )

I only have one manufacture of tubes & a tub (Prorasso) and I prefer the tube myself.

I can get great, thick lather in under 20 seconds.

I've got both and from a value standpoint I prefer tubs - better price per oz./gram. From a usage standpoint I prefer tubes - easier the get the precise amount in the scuttle and get the lather right. Tubes get used up quicker which is a mixed blessing. If it is a soap I'm not exceptionally fond of, when it's gone I get to try something different. If it is a tube of something I really like, then I have to buy more sooner. As another poster mentioned, tubes give you the change to try more stuff.
