Shaving Around the Mouth

Well, I did my 3rd straight razor shave, and I think I'm getting the hang of it. Overall I had a great BBS shave. Only cut myself twice! :rolleyes5

However, I'm having trouble shaving around the corners of my mouth, and at the edge of the upper lip. I get a lot of irritation, yet seem not to have cut much hair, if any. Does anyone have any tips for me?

I have the same problem because my hairs are so dense around my chin and bottom lip that they lay down flat.

My technique is to tuck the your lips around your teeth. Kind of like you're imitating grandpa with his missing teeth. This helps pop the hairs up from the skin and it saves you from cutting your lips (most painful by the way). It works great and saves from irritation. I use more pressure in this area and probably spend a few minutes just on my chin and lip area because of my whiskers so this is the only area I may get weepers.

I've been shaving for several months now and while I can get to BBS, this area takes a lot of time being sensitive and the straight razor seems like the wrong tool for this area. Other than being especially careful, the only thing that helps me is making a thicker lather in this area and delay the main shaving effort in this area for the second pass. By that time, the hair should be much softer.
