Shavette blades

Hi all

I've been a DE user for a few years but now fancy a change and want to give a straight a try. I know the majority of members recommend using a 'proper' razor but to be honest the whole honing, stroping and maintaing the blade doesn't appeal to me at the moment so am likely to go the shavette route.

I understand that one of the biggest issues with these is that the blade is very sharp and not very forgiving so as beginner would it be sensible to use a blade that has already been used in my DE for a couple of shaves or would that just cause further complications?

Also if I was to cave and get a regular straight how often do they actually need honing assuming 3 to 4 shaves a week

Thanks

Jim

I would just get used to shaving with a sharp blade. Having some apprehension is part of the learning process IMO.

On a properly used straight razor, I touch up my blades every 5 shaves or so on hanging sprayed leather, and hone them when I get bored, not out of necessity...so I would say you would actually hone a razor every few months. YMMV
