Shavemac minutiae

Starting to consider my next brush - knew it wouldnt' take long.

For anyone that has or has used both, any blatant/obvious differences between a Shavemac in finest versus silvertip, assuming you got the same knot size, handle, etc.? The difference in price comes down to usually $10-$20 between comparable knot size models from westcoast, when dealing with either 21mm or 23mm models. So in the end it may just be preference, I suppose.

I know that the jump from pure to best or finest is usually noticeable, but not sure about the jump from best to best-est.

Well, I haven't used a Shavemac finest...but the Silvertip is top notch and Bernd Blos is great to deal with. If you're talking only a $20 dollar difference, its worth the extra cash IMHO.

Further, you can email Bernd if you are not satisfied and he'll fix you right up...his customer service is top notch! My first Shavemac was a "shedder" (brush that tends to shed alot and wont quit). He sent me a replacement within days from Germany...goes to show he takes pride in his work!

I say get a Shavemac in Finest (a great value), but if you really want to splurge for a great brush, ask Bernd for D01 hair. It's much more expensive, but it is still my all-time favorite brush. In either case, I would get a shortened loft of 45mm-55mm

I favor the small knots too. Most of my brushes are 20 or 21 with the esception of an Edwin Jagger at 23 which I use only once in awhile. I have bigger hands, but the smaller brushes work best for me. Its all what one prefer's.   :w00t: :001_rolle

I can't make a comparison for you, but I can tell you that I absolutely adore my Shavemac 23mm Silvertip, especially with creams -- pure luxury! It also works quite well with soaps, but my Rooney 1/2 in super has a little more backbone.

+1 except for the loft.
I own two Shavemacs with D01 hair, 23mm diameter and 60mm loft. They are my two second favorite brushes and that's really saying something. Only my Plisson #16 in HMW ranks higher.
