shavemac and soap

i got a shavemac #177 23mm and i cannot get it to lather up my tabac cake very well but when i lather up a cream it explodes and gives me 5 times what i need what am i doing wrong because with my other brush i can get a great lather with my tabac.

A Shavemac should be able to lather anything. Try putting a tablespoon of water on the puck of Tabac while you prepare everything else, and then pour the water. This will soften the puck. Make sure you load your brush with soap too. Also, take a look at this collection of posts, especially this one.

I have a custom Shavemac D01 (21 mm knot and 50 mm loft) and it tears Tabac apart. Good luck!

I have a Shavemac 177 and it works great for every soap I have tried. Make sure that the brush is not to dry since it is a soft brush. If there is enough water I works perfectly as a soap brush.

I'd say try the water trick like Matthew suggested, and don't forget to really load that brush on the soap. A softer brush like a standard-loft Shavemac silvertip will need a little more time to pick up enough soap for a 3-pass shave.

And as always when having trouble lathering, try experimenting with different amounts of water and product. Usually more is better, but there is a point where it's too much!

Mostly it's just about practice. Stick with one brush and one soap for a month or so and you'll master them both!

As some suggested, it's the amount of water or amount of soap that's off...you need to experiment. The lather from a Shavemac is unreal and very quick.:thumbup1:

Cheers,
Robert

I have a shavemac D01 bulb and I'v never had problems with soap. Though curiosity did get the better of me, I just ordered a flat top soap brush

I just got Shavemac Silvertip #177 21mm knot and actually just tried suggestions in this thread. Got it a pretty good leather and had a nice shave. No razor burns, cuts, etc. I'm sure I will keep experimenting but so far I did a dry brush technique. Tablespoon of hot water on the soap while my brush was soaking. Drained the water from soap to the lather bowl and added another tablespoon of hot water to the bowl. this gave me pretty good lather. Try it and it should work for you too
