Shave Den Vanity Top Material: Soapstone?

Hello,
I'm thinking of replacing the vanity top in the bathroom where I shave. I was thinking soapstone perhaps. Any downsides to using this material w/ shaving products? Anyone have soap stone and can speak from experience?

I have no first hand experience, but isn't it a little soft? I mean if people complain about granite counter tops scratching......... Just a thought.

Can't answer your question re a countertop but do know there are wood stoves made from soapstone. A little too pricey for me when I was shopping for one but there were good reviews.

Soapstone and water is not a good combination - it is slightly porous, marks and stains, and is easily attacked by cleaning products. Marble isn't much better.

Granite is best, or you may wish to consider a composite stone which are very durable, such as Caesarstone, Silestone, Cambria, Difiniti Quartz, Hanstone & Dupont Zodiaq

if you are looking into granite, don't get black. it's pretty but wow it stains easily and every single water spot shows prominently.

Okay. I had recently noticed soap stone being promoted more as of late and was curious about it. Asked and answered, thanks.

Oky doky. artichoky. I'm leaning more toward granite now and will look to other colors. Was thinking of a malachite-like coloring if I can find one.

"You do realize you cant lather soapstone right ?
"
Oh, if only!

Soapstone was used for sinks for years. My folks still have a soapstone sink in their basement. It is a beautiful material, but a little bit soft. If you like it, then I think it may make an excellent counter top if you are a bit careful with it. You can get slate flagstone that looks very much like soapstone. When I was thinking about building a house instead of going with a pre-built, I was going to use flagstone in the entry way.

You can find soapstone counter tops here... http://www.soapstones.com/
