Sharpening Stone Mystery

Hi all~~
I received the Meiniger Sharpening Stone photo'd from a friend. Looks to be a type of Belgian natural stone.

Perhaps the second small stone is used to create a clurry?

Can anyone solve this mystery, and offer words of advice about its use with a straight razor honing?

Thanks!

~~Billy Ray

Thuri is my guess too. And a very nice one at that.
Your friend gave you (or sold you?) an extremely nice finishing stone. There's a ton on how to use these throughout the forum, but in a nutshell they are used to finish already shave-ready blades to make them oh-so-nice to shave with. You'll get different recs from different people about exactly how to use them. Some say no slurry, some say slurry dilution, some say no more than 20 strokes on water, etc.

Excellent find, my man.

The box says "Real Meininger Whet Stone"

Meiningen is a county seat and a medium-sized town in Thuringia, with a population of about 70,000 inhabitants.

So, I would also say Thuri also.

Thanks to all for quick and informative replies.

I don't know what the deal is with the photo. It looks right side up in my browser.

Hope I don't come out upside down in the mirror shaving!

My translation of the text on the box says: " These preferred stones are world renowned because of their fine Belgium natural material..."

its a cheap chinese knock off of a thuri...... probably radioactive...

send it to me for safe disposal..... :biggrin1:

Here's my Google translation effort:
Real Meininger WhetstonesThese exquisite pieces are world-renowned for their purity and are always preferred the so-called Belgian and artificial stones by the razor give a smooth Polirschneide, which is much finer and duration lefter such as when pulling on other stones

So what is a thuri? Remember, I'm a newbie.

It's a gift from a watchmaker friend and I hope to use it if you guys don't think I'll be nuked by it.
