sharp spikes on flare tip Rocket

I´ve received this 1957 (C3 on blade) beauty and I´m wondering, that there are little sharp spikes under the head. My british Red Tip and Blue Tip Super-Speeds have spikes too, but not so sharp/long. Has somebody seen that before?

I read a thread all about Superspeeds (UK & US) and there was something in there about this. It was on the Shave Den forum. Maybe check there. Sorry I dont have the link any longer.

Mine has the spikes too. But does not protrude that far down. Could be the angle of the shot though. My date code is Z1

I have a 1952 X1 black tip that is nearly identical except for the extra length. But it's still fairly long compared to some I have with the same configuration.

Those spikes are supposed to be spread opened.
Their purpose is to prevent the center bar from rising out of the base plate.
When you disassemble a razor they have to be bent in to separate the center bar shaft from the base plate barrel.
