Semogue; SOC vs 1250 vs 830

OK, so all of these are slightly different knot dimensions and one has a fakey badger dyed knot, but are there any really compelling reasons to go for the SOC? ...especially in view of the fact that I generally like smaller brushes.

I know all of these have fairly avid followings, so I'm kinda expecting raves for all three ;) I ask because I revisited my original $10 Omega and while it's a competent brush it just doesn't make me want to use it over any of my horse or badger knots and I have heard much about how the Semogue boar is a cut above.

The SOC is a big brush. It's definitely usable for face lathering, but IMHO is better suited for bowl lathering. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy face lathering with it, but if you like smaller brushes, this isn't one.

I guess I should have included the 620 in there as well, It's the smallest of the bunch.

I'm assuming that the bristle *quality* is the same for all of them, just variations in feel due to knot sizing and loft?

Of the three I prefer the 1250. For me the SOC is just too big; perhaps if I didn't have a goatee I'd like it better. My 1250 is my go-to brush.

No Sir,

The 1250 is made from White Best 90% tops. The 830 is made from 90% Premium tops and of course the bristles are not dyed. The SOC is made in the same manner as Semogue's LE brushes, with the exception that the bristles are dyed. The actual tops are claimed to be "the best boar bristles available".

I have the 1250 and love it, but looks like I have a defective knot, and it sheds. That is not the case with all of the Semogue's. I just ordered the SOC today as a matter of fact. I think you'll be happy with whichever brush you select.

Hope that helps.

I have owned a 830, 620 and SOC. I gave the SOC away and kept the other two. My favorite is the 830. They are all excellent brushes.

I found the 1250 too floppy but SWMBO took it and loves it on her legs. I liked the 620, but gave it my brother to get him started in DE.
